Durham Light Infantry, attd 6th Bn, service no. 161597.3 He and John Walls Gibson were related as uncle and nephew, which relationship was expected, given the exact same names and the connection of the younger John with Uphall, where the elder John's brother was in 1935 as informant for their mother's death.2,5
