     James Smith married Julia Isabella Taylor, daughter of Donald Taylor and Margaret Campbell, on 12 Aug 1896 at Sibster, Par. of Halkirk, CAI, SCT, Dist. 037/A #11 cert reads: James Smith, Public School Teacher, single, 31, living Albert Sq, Kirkwall (OKI), s/o Walter Smith, farmer and Margaret m.s. Larnach (transcr. as Lavnach?, I've assumed Larnach) mar. (after banns of the Free Ch of Scotland) Julia Isabella Taylor, farmer's dtr, 21, single, living Libster (sic, assumed to be a mistranscription of Sibster) Par. of Halkirk, dtr of Donald Taylor, farmer and Margaret m.s. Campbell. Wit: Alexander Taylor (assumed to be Julia's brother) and Julia Henderson.3,2
     James Smith died bef. 1908 poss. in ?Thurso, CAI, SCT.6
     James Smith appeared on the census of 3 Apr 1881 in Canisbay, CAI, SCT, in the house of Walter and Margaret Smith, as the son of Walter.4 In Aug 1896 James Smith was a "Public School Teacher" of Albert Sq, Kirkwall, OKI, SCT.3
     James Smith and Julia Henderson were possibly related as Julia was a witness at the marriage of James and Julia (Taylor) Smith. Given the bride's brother was one witness, this Julia is probably related to the groom.3
