Leo Hendershott, 76, of Springwater Rd., Scottsburg, died unexpectedly, Saturday, Oct. 18, 1997 at the Livingston County Skilled Nursing Facility in Mt. Morris, where he had been a patient since Oct. 7, 1997. Mr. Hendershott was born in Groveland Corners, Jan. 31, 1921, the son of the late Howard and Olive Carmichel Hendershott. He had been the Sparta Town Historian for many, many years. Prior to his death, Leo had been employed by the Electrolux Cleaning Systems in Hornell. He was a World War II Army Air Force veteran. Mr. Hendershott is survived by his sister-in-law, Alice Hendershott of Raleigh, N.C.; three nieces, Marilyn Dobson, Elizabeth Miller and Jule Hendershott, all of Raleigh; and five nephews, Daniel Hendershott of Durham, N.C., David Hendershott of Harvey's Lake, Pa., Timothy Hendershott of Wayland, John Hendershott of Walkhill and Charles Hendershott of Warsaw. He was predeceased by one brother, Charles Hendershott in 1988. Friends called Friday 7-8 p.m. at the Chamberlin Funeral Home, Inc., 73 Main St., Dansville, where a memorial service was held at 8 p.m. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in Lakeview Cemetery, Groveland.
