Rev. J.P. Hendershot
Services for the Rev. J.P. Hendershot, 70 former pastor of the Jefferson Avenue Baptist Church, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the College Baptist Church, Hillsdale.
The body wil be at the Ned M. Towns Funeral Home there. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Mr. Hendershot died Saturday at Hillsdale Hospital.
He had lived in Hillsdale for 12 years and was pastor of the College Baptist Church until he retired in June. Born in Cleveland, he held pastorates in Ohio and New Jersey before coming to the Detroit church in 1941.
He was a graduate of Dennison University and the Southern Baptist Seminary. He served on the board of trustees of the Detriot Baptist Missionary Society and the Baptist Training School and on boards and committees of the Detriot Council of Chruches.
Surviving are his wife, Clara; and a daughter, Mrs. W. H. Chandler; a sister, Mrs. Emil Lind; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Detroit News Aug 18, 1963. Contributed by Barbara Rudy at barudy@aol.com
