Carl Francis Hendershot, 91
10/27/2003 Oct. 26, 2003 Carl Francis Hendershot, 91, of Wysox, passed away on Sunday morning, Oct. 26, 2003, at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. Born May 22, 1912 at French Asylum, he was a son of the late Clarence Leslie Hendershot and Nettie Valentine Hendershot. Carl moved to Towanda with his parents in 1921 and was a graduate of Towanda High School class of 1930. Carl attended the Asbury College in Wilmore, Ky. and served in the U.S. Army seventh Fighter Wing during WWII in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. He was employed by the Northern Pennsylvania Power Company which later became Penelec for 40 years until his retirement on Oct. 31, 1974. On Sept. 16, 1937, Carl married the former Mildred Bethena White at Chemung, N.Y. He was preceded in death by his wife on Jan. 25, 1995. Carl enjoyed all sports especially hunting. He was a member and formerly served as an elder of the North Towanda United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Towanda American Legion Post No. 42. Surviving are: Two daughters and sons-in-law, Claudette M. Lent and Bruce Lent Jr. of Bentley Creek, and Mary Jane Chapman and John M. Chapman of Springfield Twp.; Seven grandchildren, Bruce F. Lent of Pittsburgh, John Chapman Jr. and his wife Darlene Chapman of Big Pond, Brenda M. Wormley of Bentley Creek, Linda J. King and her husband Robert King of Bentley Creek, Lori A. Van Dyke of Bentley Creek, Lisa M. Morrelli of Bentley Creek, Brian L. Lent and his wife Keisha Lent of Bentley Creek; Fourteen great-grandchildren; His sister, Alma Larnard of Towanda; Half sister, Paula Struppler of Sayre; His half brother, Joseph William Struppler of Winton, Va.; And several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lee Hendershot, and two sisters, Vivian Penny and Mary Hendershot. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, Pa. Interment will follow in the Wysox Cemetery with Towanda American Legion Post No. 42 according full military honors. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society, Bradford Unity, 1948 East Third Street, Williamsport, Pa. 17701-3945 in Carl Francis Hendershot's memory.
