Other authors also list two wives for Jacob: 1. Mary Ann b. c1750, d. aft 1844 (error) 2. Mary (Polly) d. 28-Mar-1828, buried in the old Helms Cemetery, near Calloway, Va., with slightly differing details.  Children of Mary Ann & Jacob have been listed as: 1. Adam, 2. Peter, 3. Thomas, 4. Jacob and children of Mary (Polly) & Jacob as 1. William 2. John. Served under Col. Abraham Buford. 

Jacob Helm was listed on John Bowman's 1775 Botetourt County, Va. list of tithables as "Jacob Helm".  He is listed on a Revolutionary War roster and is said by Samuel K. Helm to have served in the war until he was injured by a horse and that his son, John, later served in his place at age 15.  Samuel K. Helm's book has a great deal of information about Jacob.  A start on pulling together a genealogy listing for Jacob is presented in this section.  A number of people have worked on this over the years.  It is hoped that a more complete listing will result from showing this list as a target for others to see and propose modifications.  Samuel K. Helm tried to show him as a Jacob William Helm, son of Moses Helm of Bedford County, VA.  Bob Law has dispelled that idea.  Significant family connections for Jacob are Prillaman and Snider/Snidlow.   A broader rundown on Jacob and his descendants will be provided later in this website.

It appears that Jacob was of German ancestry, and was somehow tied to Pennsylvania, before being in Virginia.  Samuel K. Helm had tried (unsuccessfully) to show Jacob's ancestry to be English.
