Mine Kills Jim Fisher in Vietnam
OKANOGAN -- Sgt. James Fisher, 20, was killed in action in Vietnam May 28, according to word from the army.
Sergeant Fisher, the son of sheriff deputy and Mrs. Gordon (Doug) Fisher of Okanogan, was killed when the tank he was commanding ran over a land mine.
He had been in Vietnam about a month. Several days before the fatal event, another tank he was in was blown up by a mine but Fisher escaped that incident with
injuries for which he received the Purple Heart.
A native of Okanogan, he was an Okanogan high school graduate.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
Besides his parents, he is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Lillie Crossland, and Cindy and Retha Ann at home, and a younger brother, Kenneth, at home.
