Private Combs, an army radio operator, was killed in combat against the North Vietnamese forces near Dak To.

He joined the army last March and had been overseas six months.

Combs was born October 16, 1946, in Combs, Ark., and came to Okanogan with his parents in 1949. A 1965 graduate of Okanogan high school, he was active in school baseball, basketball, football and track.
