Index for the year 1820

this is an index of almost every H*D*P*TH spelling variation 
we could find in the forth  U.S. census of 1820 thus far.

if you have census data that could help us out ... please consider sharing with everyone here !

NEW   we added the "Tabulation of Household" column showing age groups of individuals within that household ... as all census records prior to 1850 only name of the head of household.

Explanation of the household tabulation: the first six digits represent number of white males, and the second five digits represent the number of white females in the following age categories: 0 to 10, 10 to 16, [males only 16-18], 16 to 26, 26 to 45, 45 and older, the next four digits are the number of people (1) foreigner not naturalized (2) apprentice (3) commerce (4) manufactures ... the second line of numbers represent the slaves and free people of color, in the following age categories: 0 to 14, 14 to 26, 26 to 45, 45 and older ... 

Also note: the names recorded here, are from census indexes that were available to us, which only listed the head of the household in most cases. Some spellings [due to human and or mechanical error] were not transcribed as they appear in the original census records, some handwritings of the various census takers can be difficult to read, and the condition of the original record when it was microfilmed, and or the focus of the individual microfilm could have hampered the transcribing ... We will try our utmost to clear up most of these discrepancies as we verify each census record that is to be posted here on subsequent pages ...
