James Heath 

James Heath was the son of Chandler Graham Heath and Lydia (Wyman) Heath.  He was born Apr. 8, 1833 Fryeburg, Oxford, ME and died June 28, 1876 age 43 of Bright's Disease and buried in Jackson Cemetery in Waldwick, Iowa, WI.  He married Oct 23, 1853 Jane Ayer (married on her mother's birthday) who was born Jun 21, 1835 Augusta, ME, and who died Dec 18, 1903 Newell, IA.  She died of a stroke and was buried in Jackson Cemetery in Waldwick, IA, WI.

Their issue, seven children:

  1. Jonas Heath b. Aug 6, 1854 d. Mar 25, 1880 of Pneumonia age 25 years, 7 months, and 22 days and buried in Jackson Cemetery in Waldwick, WI.  He married Sep 27, 1876 Sarah F. Cockings.

  2. Goretta Heath b. Oct 20, 1855 d. 8 Feb 1951 m. Feb 26, 1873 Charles Campton.

  3. Frances C. Heath b. Feb 24, 1857 d. Feb 28, 1907 Pernicious Anemia.  She was married Feb 26, 1873 to Lewis A. White. (double wedding with her sister Goretta)  She was buried Mar 3, 1907 Newell, IA.  She died in Clarion IA.  

  4. Chandler Heath b. Jul 27, 1859 d. Dec 18, 1934 m. Dec 13, 1879 to Emma Elizabeth Huxtable.  Died of a stroke. Buried in Iowa Co., WI.

  5. Leah L. Heath b. Aug 25, 1864 d. June 26, 1933 m. Sep 15 1879 Wm. Huxtable (brother of Emma Huxtable).  buried in Newell, IA, also her husband Wm. Huxtable.

  6. Ara Bartram Heath b. Nov 17, 1868 d. May 16, 1953 m. 1)Amy Deloss Wheeler 2) Cora Hittenmark of Pomeroy, IA.

  7. James Heath b. Aug 30, 1876 d. of Pernicious Anemia on May 21, 1933.  m. 1) Mar 6, 1895 Mabel (May) Mitchell 2) Apr 19, 1919 Nora Babb.  James died in Hoisington Hospital in Great Bend, Kansas and was buried in Independence, Kansas.

Be it remembered that on the 23rd of October, 1853 in the town of Mineral Point, in said County, and State afore said, James Heath of Iowa County and State of Wisconsin and Jane Hairs of the Town of Mineral Point, Iowa County, and State of Wisconsin were wiyh their mutual consent legally joined together in Holy matrimony, which was solemized by me in the presence of Peter Toay of Mineral Point in said County, and Jane Toay of Mineral Point in said County, attending witnesses having been first satisfied by the oath of James Heath duly administered by me, that there was no legal impediment to such marriage,

James Heath born 8th Apr 1833, died 28 Jun 1876 in Wisconsin.  He volunteered enlistment in Company D. of Bracketts Battalion of Minnesota, 12 Dec 1863 for three years.  He was appointed Sergeant by order of General Pope 29 Dec 1864 to enable him to be mustered in as Second Lieut. Mustered out with Company.  Do not have date of discharge.  

Among the Pension Records in the National Archives is a file, cited as above, relating to the claim based on the Civil War service of James Heath as 2nd, Lieutenant, Company D. Bracketts Battalion, Minnesota Volunteer Cavalry.  Jane Heath, widow of James Heath, was pensioned under certificate number W C 463 573 from October 14, 1897, to her death on December 18, 1903.  I have not made any inquiry regarding James Heath's date of discharge.


The above were the grandparents on her mother's side of Nettie White Wolcott, who lived in Pasadena, CA at the time she submitted the record to the LDS FHL.
