I was strolling through one of those Flea Markets here in Queensland
and having Gypsy blood in me I love to look through all of the old wares
and stalls that look as though all their stuff should be at the tip (Glad
that it wasn't, in the end) when I found a stall that had these newspapers...not
too many, only eight at the moment.
The chap wanted $20 for them, I felt that was a bit too expensive as I
explained to the chap they were torn and a bit tatty....too hard for most
people to read because the writing is so small.
He said to make an offer which I did, $15 I think! Anyway I am happy to
It wasn't until I got them home and a few days later had a look at one
of them and found the paper was an English one and the date was exactly
the day my family departed England to come to Aus - 1953. I was only a
few months old then, so for me, it was an extra special find.
I have the following...
A Supplement to the Sydney Morning Herald, Saturday, April 18, 1931
The Northern Daily Leader, Tamworth, Monday, June 1, 1953
Sunday Telegraph, Sydney, February 7, 1954
The Sun-Herald, Sydney, Sunday, February 7, 1954
Sydney Morning Herald, Tuesday April 14, 1981
The Evening News, London, Tuesday June 2, 195
The Evening News, London, Friday, June 5, 1953
Cooma Monaro Express, Supplement, Friday February 21, 1958.
My niece in Melbourne bought a home a few months ago and has started
renovating, I asked her to keep me any old newspapers that she found under
the lino ...she has some for me but I do not know what or how many.

have transcribed a lot of articles from the Western Post newspaper from
October 1860 to December 1861 plus various published lists from the Western
Post & Mudgee Guardian from 1862-1863. A lot of these have been posted
to various lists in the past months but there is no listing of them all

am compiling several family history books on my various branches. I'm currently
working on one for NEICH, and DORMAN / WRIGHT, and STUNDEN. Last year I
completed two books:
the Diehm - Kiesecker Clan, and, Sophia Rolfe, which I enjoyed immensely.
is slow going, but there is a wealth of information, both historical on most
countries of the world, and current affairs, (including shipping, BDM's,
politics, murders etc) contained in newspapers online at the website of the
National Library of Australia:
decided I may as well share items I found interesting. If anyone else would like
to help, it would be appreciated.
