| Father | **George Henry Feldman b. 11 May 1826, d. 27 January 1883 | |
| Mother | **Dorothea Rose Rosewag b. 25 January 1831, d. 11 December 1876 |
| Birth | 10 June 1872 | Augusta Christine was born
on 10 June 1872 at Morrison, Whiteside county, Illinois. Pat Haslam's
notes say that she was born on 18 Jan 1872 while her obituary indicates
that she was born 10 June 1872. She is 7 years old on the 1880 census
which was taken on 18 June 1880. The date of record for this census was
1 June 1880 and she would not have been 8 until 10 June 1880 if the
information in her obituary is correct. On the 1900 census she claims
to have been born in June of 1872 in Illinois.2,3,4,5 Search for a baptismal record in the churches of Morrison, Illinois. |

| 1876 | In 1876 her mother died of TB when she was only 4
and in 1878 her father remarried.....possibly to a sister of Augusta's
mother, Dorothea. Then in 1883 her father died. Augusta was about
11 when her father died. After the death of her father she lived with a
sister of her father, Catherine and her husband George Winter(s) in
Morrison.6,7,8,9,10 |

| Cen1880 | 18 June 1880 | Augusta Christine Feldman shows in the household of her father George Henry Feldman
on the 1880 census of Morrison city, Whiteside county, Illinois taken
18 June 1880. Henry is 54 years old, born in Baden, both parents
were born in Baden. He keeps a restaurant. Wife is Rose, she is 46,
born in Baden and both parents were born in Baden. This residence is on
Main Street in Morrison. Daughter Emma is 14, son George is 13 and
daughter Augusta is 7. She is recorded as having NOT been in school
during the past year. All children were born in Illinois. George,
the younger, Emma and Augusta are in school. Brother of George Henry,
Jacob, is living at res 224 on Main Street. They are living at res.
#233 right on Main St. in Morrison. Both George and Rose could read and
write.12,5 |

| Augusta had some sort of falling out with FLORA,
her sister, which was somewhat resolved when she came to the house of
SARA WINTERS MAYER, when FRITZ MAYER died. This can not be true as Fritz Mayer/Meyer died AFTER Augusta.
SARA WINTERS was the daughter of Katrina/ Katherine Feldman Winters,
sister of Augusta's father and therefore they were cousins.14 |
||||||
| 18 June 1886 | On 18 June 1886 Augusta
was awarded a graduation certificate from the Morrison School system
for completing the "second Intermediate" department of the Morrison
school. She received very good grades.
Since she was 14 years old this was likely graduation from what today
would be the eighth grade. Since in 1880 she was NOT in school this
could have been graduation from the 6th grade.15 |

| December 1890 | For Christmas in 1890 she received a book of poems
by Tennyson from her brother Georg Henry Feldman. That book is in the
possession of Pomala Morin Black in 2007.17 |

| Marriage | Augusta Christine Feldman married Simon Sigmund Fehrenbach, son of Franz Josef Fehrenbach and Anastasia Graf. Pat Haslam's notes.3 |
|||||
| 22 April 1893 | The marriage records for Whiteside county Illinois give 22 April 1893 in Sterling, Whiteside county, Illinois for the marriage of Simon and Augusta. Simon Sigmund Fehrenbach was 28 and Augusta Christine Feldman was 20.18 | |||||
| The obituary for Augusta says that this marriage
took place on 19 April 1893. So it is possible that the 22 April date
is when the license was returned for recording. They have been married
for 7 years on the 1900 census done 4 June1900.2,19 |

| Simon and Augusta moved to Chelsea, Tama county
Iowa between their marriage in Whiteside county, Illinois in April of
1893 and the birth of son George in Chelsea Iowa in Feb of 1895. In her
obituary we find that she had lived in Iowa for 13 years. If they moved
to Michigan about 1906 then they must have come to Iowa very soon after
they were married.19 |
||||||
| Census | 1895 | Augusta shows on the Iowa State census of 1895 as
married, with family, 22 years old. Daughter Anna is 2 years old and
son George is "0" years old. There is no date on this census sheet.21 |
||||
| 1900 | While in Iowa Augusta ran the phone switch board
in their store. They had hired help that helped with the children. She
would make up bags of hard candy for the children to take to school.
Made them very popular. This store was a jewelry store, but they also
sold candy and ice cream. Louise remembers that they also had billiard
tables in the back of the store. Annie caught her little finger in the
crank of the hand ice cream churn and would always have a finger that
was not straight.14 |
|||||
| Cen1900 | 4 June 1900 | Augusta Christine Feldman and Simon Sigmund Fehrenbach
show on the 1900 U.S. census taken on 4 June 1900 in Seneca Street,
Chelsea village, Salt Creek Twp, Tama county, Iowa. Seneca Street runs
between Station Street and Main Street, going generally east and west
and parallel to the rail road in the center of town. Just to the north
of this street is Otter Creek. Simon is 35 years old, born in Germany in July 1864. He is a naturalized citizen and has been in this county for 16 years, that is entering in 1884 per his statement on this census. He is a Jeweler, owns a mortgaged home Simon and Augusta have been married 7 years. Augusta has had 5 children and 4 are living. She was born in June 1872 in Illinois. Daughter Anna is 8 and born in Illinois, April of 1892. Son George W is 5 born Feb 1895 in Iowa, daughter Louisa was born March 1899 in Iowa and BABY (this is Edith) was born in March of 1900.22 |
||||
| August 1905 | In August of 1905, Augusta went to Clinton for two weeks with 3 small children. Copy newpaper article.
The children would be Louise, Harry and Edith, I believe. Louise says
that they went to Clinton while their father attended the World Fair in
Chicago. In 1905 there was not a World's Fair in Chicago therefore if Simon went to Chicago it was to attend some other type of exposition or event.23 |
|||||
| 1906 | The land that they owned in Montague was in
Augusta's name. This was because Simon felt that might prevent the land
from being taken for debts that his store might incure. That may or not
be true. He had lost on the land that he owned in Iowa and ultimately
some of the land in Montague had to be sold to pay the taxes.14 |
|||||
| March 1906 | It appears that this family moved to Montague
about March of 1906. Louise says that she had her birthday party in
Iowa BEFORE they left for Michigan. Louise's birthday is 4 March. She
would have been 7 years old and able to remember this.19
Family "legend" has it that they moved from Iowa due to the "Hot
weather" and the "bohemians" to the beautiful Western Michigan shore.
There also is some speculation that Simon was "sold a bill of
goods" by the promoters of the Montague area, ie. Charlie Ohrenberger.

|||||
| Cen1910 | 20 April 1910 | Augusta Christine Feldman shows on the U.S.
Census for 1910 at Water Street, Montague, Muskegon county, Michigan
taken on 20 April 1910. Simon is Augusta is 38 years old, married 19 years. They
have 6 children living at home. Dorothy is the youngest.24 |
||||
| 1914 | In the winter of 1914 Augusta wrote a belated
birthday post card to her sister Flora in Clinton, Iowa telling of the
"hard winter" that had just finished. Four of her children "are in
school". That would be George, Louise, Edith and Harry. Dorothy had
"stay home sometimes". This was because she had TB, also. There are
several other post cards that we sent to Pomala Morin Black by Dorothea
Howard daughter of this sister in Clinton. They are not entirely
legible.25 |
|||||
| August 1917 | Augusta was confined to bed for about 14 months
with TUBERCULOSIS, before she died. Therefore about August of 1917 that
she became bed ridden.19 |
|||||
| August 1918 | Edna tells a story of the time that George and
Mable came to the house to inform the family that they were married.
This was just prior to George being sent over seas. Augusta was quite
upset and sent Edna away with the promise of some candy if she did
so. |

| Obituary | 12 Oct 1918 |
The Obituary for Augusta Christine from the
Montague paper of Montague, at Michigan is as follows:
The Obituary for Augusta Feldman Fehrenbach. There is at least one error in this obituary. It says that she and Simon were married in Sterling, Illinois, lived there for 1 year and then moved to Chelcy, in the same state. Not true. Chelsea is in Iowa.27 |
||||
| Burial | 12 October 1918 | Augusta was buried at Oak Grove in Montague,
Michigan. This was the birthday of youngest son Harry. The funeral was
from her home on North Hill.19 |
||||
| Note | She was buried with her most favorite ring of GOLD and SAPPHIRE, given to her by Simon.14 |
|||||
| 1919 | The funeral for the daughter of Augusta and Simon
in 1898 in Chelsea was held in the Methodist Episcopal church. The
funeral for Augusta in Montague was conducted by Rev. Chamberlain. Find to what church he belonged in 1918?19,28 |

| Probate | The probate of the estate of Augusta Christine Feldman was begun. Extensive information regarding the probate action due to the fact that there were minor children. All in Edith Fehrenbach Morin's file as she was the Execturix of the estate. This is somewhat surprising as Edith was only about 18 when her mother died, but she was the oldest child living at home. | |||||
