| Birth | June 1803 | George Thurston was born
in June 1803 at Argyle or Sodus, Washington county, New York. Since his
father claims in his Pension application that George was 18 years old
and healthy, living at home in 1818 he must have been born ca 1800. But
George on the 1850 census says that he is 47 and in 1860 says that he
is 57 therefore we conclude that father was not only ill, in 1818, but
was a little confused.2,3,4,5,6 |
| 21 April 1818 | On 21 April 1818 George's father applied for a
Revolutionary War Pension. On this application he says that son George
was 18 years old. To be 18 years old on 21 April 1818 he must have been
born April 1800 and that does not seem to be the case.2 |

| Cen1820 | 1820 | George Thurston Havens may appear on the 1820 census in the household of Joseph Havens
in Cohocton, Steuben county, New York. There is a Joseph Havens on the
same page of the census as William and Henry Havens, who are sons of
Joseph. There are two males and 1 female in this household. We assume
the males are father Joseph and George Thurston who was the youngest
son and that the female was Martha Bennett.7,8 |

| Marriage | circa 1826 | George Thurston Havens married Mary Ann (Polly) Keith, daughter of Michael Keith and Esther Cody, circa 1826 in New York.10 |
| Cen1830 | 1830 | George Thurston Havens may appear on the 1830
U.S. Census in Cohocton, Steuben county, New York, On this census
George and wife appear as 20-30 years old. They have a son under 5,
likely George W. and a daughter under 5 likley Abigail.12 |
| research | 1835 | Find at Cohocton, Steuben county, New York, 1835 In 1835 George and family were living in Cohocton, Steuben county, New York as daughter Jerusha was born there in 1836. Check the 1835 census. |
| research | 1840 | Find 1840 It appears that George and his family moved from Steuben county New York to Michigan between the birth of daughter in 1836 in Steuben county and 1840 census. Prove This. |

| Land | 10 October 1840 | On 10 October 1840 George Thurston Havens of St.
Joseph county, Michigan purchased 95 and 14/100th acres from the US
Government in Kalamazoo county, Michigan. To see the land patent click
HERE. This land was the NE 1/4 of Section 36 of T5S, R9W. On October 10, 1840 George Thurston Havens, youngest son of Joseph, purchased two parcels of land in St. Joseph County, Michigan. The two adjoining parcels were right on the eastern edge of St. Joseph Co., abutting Branch Co. One was in Leonidas Twp., the location of his home, and the other was just south in Colon Twp., just north of the village of Colon. (Which by the way is the magic capitol of the world, owning this name because it is the hometown of Harry Blackstone). The largest parcel was 95.14 acres in the NE 1/4 of Section 36 in Leonidas Twp. The other is of 40 acres in Section 1 of Colon Twp. From the following scan of the St. Joseph Co. map, you can see Havens Lake in the Northeast corner of Section 36. Since a quarter section is 160 acres, I'm not sure how much dry land George owned. It appears that Havens Lake occupies about 50% of that quarter section. His other parcel of 40 acres being in the the SW 1/4 corner of the NW corner of Section 1 is mostly taken up by Adams Lake, therefore not much arable land there either. .13,14 |

described as: SW 1/4 of the NW 1/4 Sec. 1, T6S, R9W. To see this patent

| 7 May 1854 | Here is a copy of a letter written to George Thurston Havens from
his nephew Zebulon S. Havens in North Cohocton on the 7th of May 1854
telling about bounty land business. He says that Uncle William denies
that George had given him power of attorney to do business about bounty
land. Also mentions something about a Dan. |

| Beth Watkins has the following: 1830 census Cohocton, 1840 census, Michigan, 1845 state census St. Joe Co. MI, 1850 census St. Joe Co page 320, 1860 census St. Joe Co, Leonidas, Land document dated 1869 shows sale of Thomas N Haven's share of his father's estate to his mother. St Joe county land documents show his name in 1838, so that must be about when they came to Michigan. She has copy of a letter written to George Thurston Havens from his nephew Zebulon S. Havens in North Cohocton on the 7th of May 1854 telling about bounty land business. He says that Uncle William denies that George had given him power of attorney to do business about bounty land. Beth Watkins also says she has signed affadavit swearing that he was the son of Joseph Havens. Signed 27 Jun 1865. |

George Thurston has none. George T is 57, born in New York. Polly is 55
and born in New York. They appear on page 14 of the census. Children
