Antoine Dionne1         7th Great Grand father of the children of Leslyn and Pomala Black
b. 1641, d. 24 December 1721, #5459

Name Variation Antoine Dionne was also found as Antoine Dione.  This name has morphed in Quebec to include Dion and others.  The Dionne quintriplets are descendents of this man.

Birth 1641 Antoine was born in 1641 at Montfort-la-Morille, Chartres, France. He was possibly the son of Jean GUYONNE dit SANSSOUCY.2,3,4,5

According to some recent discoveries, Antoine DIONNE (GUYONNE)-known as SANSSOUCY would be originating in the old French province of Nivernais, today the department of Nievre. One believed for a long time that name DIONNE came from the name of the department of Yonne, in the north of Nievre, in the old French province of Burgundy, close to Nivernais. However the department of Yonne is thus named only since 1790. The Name DIONNE would come rather from the old Gallic name "Divona" (or "Divonna"), derived from Latin Devos (god, divine) and of the suffix - onna (source, fountain), which indicated initially a "crowned source" or a "fountain of the gods", then a locality located close to this source or this fountain. As in the Latin word vivenda become "French meat", the "v" between two vowels were erased and "A" final gave the "E" dumb.6  (translated from French)

Marriage 1660 Antoine Dionne married Catherine Yvory 1660 in Bougogne, France.

According to certain sources, Antoine would have married Catherine (dau. of Jacob IVORY, born in 1644), February 24, 1660, in Coutran (Laferte in Champagne, France). But according to Voice's of Dionne, vol.13, No 3, Automne.1999, this marriage certificate could not be confirmed. It is known however that it arrived to New-France, with a small family, in 1663.

But http://www.hypernews.org/HyperNews/get/laliberte/7/34/1.html says that Antoine Dionne was the only one of that name to arrive from France to Canada. Antoine and Catherine Ivory had 12 children but only one son, Jean, had descendants. All others died young.

The first piece of land where our ancestors lived in America is now located at 2242 Chemin Royal (Royal road) in Saint-Pierre, Île d'Orléans.3,4,7

1663

During the summer 1663 Antoine DIONNE dit-Sanssoucy, his Catherine wife and their 2 year old son André, embark for New-France, undoubtedly on board the one of these five ships which came to Quebec that year, that is to say the "Phoenix de Flessingue", June 30, "the Bull", after July 24, a vessel of Normandy, July 30, and two ships of Roy, "the Gold Eagle" and "the Garden of Holland", September 22. (cf Langlois, Mr., "List of the ships come to News-France, 1657 to 1665", the Ancestor, vol. 3, No 3, p. 3).

Although these five ships transported all of those people committed for New-France, our ancestors most likely made the crossing on board the one of the two last. In fact indeed the vessels of Roy, because of their strong tonnage, transported the majority of the immigrants. The date of arrival of these boats in addition would be brought closer that of November 22. It is known Antoine DIONNE was already present on the Island of Orleans on or before November 22, 1663 (cf Bulletin of Association Dionne of America, vol.1, No 2, pp 12-15).

Antoine is 22 years old and Catherine is 18.

In 1667 Antoine appears on the census of New France as Antoine Dionne dit Sansoucy.  He is 26 years old, wife is 24 years old, they have one daughter who is 2.  They own one cow and 8 arpents of land on Ile d'Crleans.  Some of their land is cleared.

Death 24 December 1721 Antoine died on 24 December 1721 at Isle de Orleans,  Montmorency, Quebec. He was buried on Christmas Day.2,3  He was about 80 years old.
