Name Variation Robert de Beaumont, 4th Earl of Leicester was also found as Robert "FitzPernel".4

Birth circa 1158 Robert was born circa 1158 at Leicester Castle, Leicestershire, England.3

Marriage before 1200 Robert de Beaumont, 4th Earl of Leicester married Loretta de Braose, daughter of William 4th de Braose, Lord of Bramber and Maud de St. Valerie, before 1200. There are no recorded children.1,5

Earl of Leicester, Steward of England, and Seigneur of Breteuil and Paci in Normandy. He distinguished himself when he accompanied King Richard I on crusade. During Richard's captivity in Austria, Robert was one of the chief captains in the defense of Normandy against KING PHILIP II of France, successfully defending Rouen. Robert was captured by KING PHILIP, but King Richard so valued Robert's service that he persuaded the Archbishop of Rouen to lift the interdict against PHILIP in exchange for Robert's freedom. Robert was a steadfast supporter of KING JOHN. Along with WILLIAM MARSHAL, Robert represented KING JOHN in negotiations with KING PHILIP in 1204. Robert d.s.p. in that year, his coheiresses being his two sisters, AMICE and MARGARET.6

Death 20 October 1204 Robert died on 20 October 1204. He had no children. At the death of Robert FitzPernel, Earl of Leicester, his coheirs were his two sisters: (i) Amice; (ii) Margaret, wife of Saher de Quincy, created Earl of Winchester in 1207.
