Birth circa 1837 Suzanna was born circa 1837 in Ohio. She is 23 on the 1860 census and 33 on the 1870 census.3,4

Marriage 11 June 1854 Suzanna Crotty married Darius Eastman, who was 23 years old,  son of Amos Eastman the Younger and Ruby Brockway, 11 June 1854. This was a first marriage for both. This marriage MAY have occurred about June 1854. Since Darius shows on the 1860 census as 29 years old, and this is consistent with other information, he would have been about 24 when he married Susan Crotty. Son Frank is 5 on the 1860 census.5,6

1860 Find 1860 There are no Crotty families in Wayne in 1860.

CEN1860 4 Sept 1860 Suzanna Crotty and Darius Eastman appear on the 1860 census of Wayne township, LaFayette county, Wisconsin taken on 4 September 1860. Darius is 29, born in Ohio, a farmer with $3000 of real estate and $400 of personal property. Susan is 23, born in Ohio. Frank is 5 and Helen is 2, both born in Wisconsin. They have one hired hand. They appear on line 36, res 44, family 44 on page 5 of Wayne township.3,6

August 1862 Her husband, Darius was in the service during the Civil war from August 1862 until sometime in 1864.

Cen1870 10 Aug 1870 Suzanna Crotty and Darius Eastman appear on the 1870 census taken on 10 August 1870 in Wayne township, LaFayette ciounty, Wisconsin where Darius is a 39 year old farmer with $3000 of real estate and $2000 of personal property, born in Ohio. Susan is 33 and born in Ohio. There is a daughter Mary that is 17 who was born in Illinois. This Mary could be Darius sister rather than his daughter. (This Mary DOES NOT show on the 1860 census with Darius and she would have been bca 1853 and therefore about 7 years old. ) Frank is 15, Hellen is 11, Alva is 9, Ruben , listed as MALE, (this is Ruby) is 2 and there are twins Darius and Dwight who are 7. They are listed AFTER Ruby.7,8

 
Sept 1870 Suzanna Crotty and Darius Eastman were divorced some time after 1870. Susan appears with Darius on the 1870 census. Notes in Darius' diary indicate that she left in September 1870. In this diary in March 1871 he writes that he and "Mrs. Eastman" settled on the amount for alimony.9

1871 Family lore has it that "She went to live in Lena, Ill". BUT in 1880 she is in Kansas.

...the house occupied by Mrs. Eastman, in the east part of town, was seriously damaged, the kitchen entirely demolished, and in her attempt to flee to the residence of Judge Davis for safety, the lady would have perished had assistance not reached her promptly.
Cen1880 1880 Suzanna Crotty shows in the household of Hiram R Eastman on the 1880 census of Kinsley township, Edwards county, Kansas taken 1880, Hiram MAY appear on this census as 21 years old, born in Wisconsin, father born in Canada and mother born in Ohio. He is married to a Helen Eastman, 21 years old, born in Wisconsin and both parents born in Ohio. HER mother is Susan C. Eastman, divorced. Susan was born in Ohio, father born in Ohio and mother born in Virginia. Susan is 43 years old. Darius Eastman, son of Susan, is 17 years old, born in Wisconsin. Darius is a laborer. This Susan C. Eastman is  the ex-wife of Darius Eastman. The age of Susan and the age of her son is correct for what we know. We suspect that Hellen is also a daughter of Darius and Susan Crotty.

1885 Suzanne Crotty appears as S. C. Eastman on the 1885 Kansas census. She is a dressmaker, born in Ohio, 47 years old, claims that she is widowed which is NOT true. She came to Kansas from Illinois. Son Frank is 29 years old and son Dwight is 22, both are painters and born in Wisconsin.10

1885 Find 1885 There is a family of Morris Crotty, 2 males and 1 female in Argyle, Lafayette, WI. Could be her family (in 1885). Suzanna is living in Kansas at this time and is on the Kansas census in 1885.11

Cen1900 7 June 1900 Suzanna Crotty shows on the 1900 U.S. census in 621 Olive Street, Los Angeles Ward 3, Dist 30, Los Angeles County, California. Suzanne appears as Sussie Eastman on this census. She is a 61 year old widow. She was married one time and had 5 children only 3 of whom are living.(Actually, we believe that she had 6 children.)   She was born in April of 1839 in Ohio. This age does NOT agree with the age that she gives on other census' . Father born in Ohio, mother born in Virginia. Son Frank is a 45 year old widower, born in Wisconsin in April of 1855. He is employed as a painter. His son Edward E is 7 years old, born in California April 1893, mother born in Kentucky.
