Cen1820 1820 Nelson Lee Eastman may appear on the 1820 census in the household of Amos The Elder Eastman in Sandy Creek township, Mercer county, Pennsylvania. Amos is 26 to 45 years old, Polly is the females 26-45. There is another male 26 to 45 who could be the husband of Rememberence as it appears that she is still in the household as the 16-26 year old female. The 2 females under 10 are Laura and an unknown daughter or possibly a daughter of Rememberence. 3 males under 10 are likely Alva who would be about 7, Herman about 5 and William about 3. It appears that Alexander was not yet born at the time of this census. 3 males 10-16 were Amos who would be about 16; John about 14 and Nelson about 12.5

Marriage 1 Oct 1830 Nelson Lee Eastman, 22 years old, married Amanda Marish Melvina Smith, who was 17 years old, 1 October 1830 in Sandusky, OH..3,4  

1832 In the Church of Wayne township, Cherry Valley, his name appears to be Nelson L. Eastman. He pledged $3 in labor in 1833 for the building of the new church and did not pay. Maybe he was not there to do his work.6   This man moved about quite a bit.

March 1833 March 1833 In March signed as witness to deed of Amos Eastman in Ashtabula county, Ohio.2   Was this Amos the Amos that was his FATHER or the AMOS that was his BROTHER???
Trumbull township is T10 R5 of Ashtabula county Ohio. There was no real settlment of this township until 1818.7

1842 The History of Ashtabula county says that Nelson Eastman came to Trumbull township about 1842 and stayed for 6 years. He was the first physician in the township. Some of his brothers were there at this time also.7

They moved from Ohio between 1844 and 1847 to Wiota, LaFayette county, Wisconsin as in 1844 they had a child born in Ohio and in 1847 a child was born in Wisconsin.

1846 "That Man Eastman" says that he was a Electric physian, practiced in Cinncinati, Ohio, moved to Wiota about 1846 and then to Valley Springs, South Dakota.8

Cen1850 18 July 1850 Nelson Lee Eastman appears on the 1850 census of Wiota, LaFayette county, Wisconsin where  Nelson appears as Nelson L, is a 41 year old Doctor, born in Vermont. He owns $800 of real estate. Amanda is 36, born in New York. Children at home are Permelia, 17, Clotiilda 15, Ruth 9 and Alfred 6, all born in Ohio. Son Edwin is 2 and born in Wisconsin. There is one unrelated student living in this household.9

1854 Nelson Lee Eastman is on the Wisconsin census of  1854 in Wiota, LaFayette county, Wisconsin. This census only gives heads of families therefore we do not know which of his family were still with him.10

1858 Nelson moved his family to Concord, Dodge County, Wisconsin about 1858 to farm, but on the 1860 census there he gives his occupation as a physician..8,11 
About this time Frank Bullock, who would become the husband of daughter Sarah Ruth Eastman, moved to the same general area.12

CEN1860 6 July 1860 Nelson Lee Eastman appears on the 1860 census of Concord, Dodge county, Minnesota taken on 6 July 1860 as a 51 years old, physician born in VT. 500/1500 assets. Wife, Amanda and 9 children. Appears to have come to WI from Ohio between the birth of Alfred in 1843 and Edwin in 1848.

Daughter Permelia is married and living very close. The future husbands of Sarah Ruth and Clotilda are on this page of the census also.11,13
 
On the 1870 census this family is living in Cherry Grove, Goodhue county, Minnesota.  Nelson is a 62 year old physician, born in Vermont.  His real estate is valued at $6000 and personal property at $2135.  Wife is Amamda, 55, born in New York.

1876 About 1876 he moved to Minnehaha county, South Dakota.8
Cen1880 1880 Nelson Lee Eastman and Amanda Marish Melvina Smith show on the 1880 census for Sheet 488C, Township 102, Minnehaha, Dakota Territory. Nelson L is as 71 year old farmer, born in New York, both parents were born in New York. Wife is Amanda, 65, born in New York as were parents.14

Death 17 May 1890 Nelson Lee died on 17 May 1890 at Valley Spring, at SD at age 81.4,3
