Will* 29 April 1757 Samuel Brockway left a will dated 29 April 1757. Here is what Donald Lines Jacobus, who was a noted genealogist in the CT area says on the estate of Samuel the Elder:

The births of the children of Samuel and Lydia (Johnson) Brockway are not recorded at Branford, nor are their baptisms found in the Firstchurch records of Branford. Lydia was living in 1761. Samuel died shortly before 21 May 1775, when Joseph Brockway, named Executor in an instrument called the last will of Samll Brockway late of Branford Dec'd. refused the trust (Guilford Probate Records 12:436). Apparently the will had been superseded by the 1761 deeds, and it was not accepted or recorded. I have seen the original will in the unindexed files still kept (1959) in the Probate Court, Guilford

The will of Samuel Brockway of Branford, dated 29 April 1757, named Lydia "my dearly beloved wife". To son Samuel Brockway, "he haveing already received considerable of my Estate, " my "gould seal ring and a horse." To my son Joseph, farm where I live. To son Woolston Brockway, half my land in Sharon except 50 acres. To son Timothy Brockway, half my land in Sharon except 50 acres. To son Edward Brockway, land called the School Land and all his land near the place commonly called Stoney Creek. To grandchild Jesse Brockway, 100 acres in Sharon. To granddaughter Elizabeth Hubbard £42. Son Joseph to be executor." Woolston, Jesse and Timothy were to receive £33 each..8  
Death* 3 January 1774
Samuel died on 3 January 1774 at Branford, at Connecticut at age 81. Peter does not give death place nor does Allen; neither give any source for their date of 3 Jan 1775. Son, Joseph, was named executor of the estate of "Samll Brockway, late of Branford" on 1 May 1775 in Branford. Therefore, we can conclude that Samuel died BEFORE 1 May 1775, maybe as early as 3 January. Mary Jett does give date as 3 Jan 1774/5 as does Joel Ettinger.9,8,3,10,7

Death 3 January 1775 A date of death for Samuel is often given as on 3 January 1775 at Northford, at New Haven county, at Connecticut at age 82.7,11 
Death 1757 A death date of 1757 is given by one source. This date is when his will was written, not when he died.12
