Birth 1057 Hugh the Great was born in 1057 at Vermandois,  France.9,10,11,2,12   Vermandois is an area north-east of Paris around the city of Laon.
Marriage Hugh the Great of Crepi married Adelaide Countess of Vermandois, daughter of Herbert IV , Count of Vermandois and Adele de Valois. A date for this marriage is sometimes given as ca 1064 which is not likely, tho' they could have been bethrothed as early as 1064.11

1096 The German Crusade of 1096 was the part of the First Crusade, a crusade in which peasants from France and Germany attacked Jewish communities. Although anti-Semitism had existed in Europe for centuries, this is the first record of an organized mass pogrom.  This Crusade took the over land route to Palestine through the Byzantine empire.13  Hugh was involved in this crusade. 19

Death 18 October 1101 Hugh the Great died on 18 October 1101 in at Tarsus, in Cilicy.14,15,16,17,12   NOT Sicily but what is now Turkey (Turquie).20
Burial Hugh was buried at St Pauls in Tarsus in what is now Turkey.18,11
He is known as Hugh the Great and Hugh of Cripi. He held the titles of Duke of France and of Burgundy and Count of Vermandois and comte de Chaumont. .1,2,10
