Birth 2 Feb 1845 Sophia was born on 2 February 1845 at Wurtemberg, Baden, Germany.2,3

Immigration 1859 Sophia Wineman immigrated from Germany to the United States in 1859. (US census information.)
1859 She says that she came to the United States when she was 14 years old. On the 1880 census she says that she is 35 years old, therefore born about 1845. Since her mother says that she came her when she was 60 years old and this woman was 72 in 1880 it can be surmissed that they came to the US about 1859.3

Marriage 1860 to 1865 Sophia Wineman married John(Johann) G(eorge) Feldman, son of Jacob Feldman and Salome Argast, between 1860 and 1865 in Whiteside county, Illinois. In a letter to her family written 21 November 1917, she states that she lived in Morrison, Illinois from 1862 until 1912 and that she had 7 children. She lists her children as Jacob, Ina, Bertha, Frank, Carl, John and Artemus. No date for this marriage.2,3,4

1862 Lived at Morrison IL from 1862 to 1912 when she moved with her invalid husband to California. After the death of her husband she lived with a daughter in California.3,4

Cen1870 June 1870 Sophia Wineman and John(Johann) G(eorge) Feldman appear on the 1870 census in Mt. Pleasant township, Whiteside county, Illinois.  John is 34 years old, born in Baden, Germany but a US citizen. He owns $4000 of real estate and $2000 of personal property. They are living next door to George Henry Feldman, brother of John. Sophia is 25 years old and born in Wirtenburg. All the children were born in Illinois. Son Jacob is 5, daughter IVY is 2 and Mabelle is 5/12.5

Cen1880 8 Sept 1880 Sophia Wineman and John Feldman show on the 1880 census for Mt. Pleasant township, Whiteside county, Illinois. John is 44 years old, born in Baden, Germany. Sophia is 35 years old. There are 5 children in the household, plus Sophia's mother who is a widow. Census is recorded as taken 15 June 1880 but was actually taken on 8 Sept. John's two brothers have moved to town and are running a restaurant.6

Cen1900 15 June 1900 Sophia Wineman and John(Johann) G(eorge) Feldman show on the 1900 U.S. census in Mt. Pleasant township, Whiteside county, Illinois. John is a 64 year old farmer, born in Germany in October of 1835. Wife of 37 years is Sophia who was born in Germany in February 1845. John immigrated in 1854 and Sophia in 1859. Sophia has had 9 children, 7 of whom are living. (We only know the names of 8 of those children.) Children still at home are:
Frank J, born Sept 1875 in Illinois, farm manager.
John A., born May 1881, farmer
Artemus H, born Sept 1884 in school. The three children were born in Illinois.

Cen1910 1910 Sophia Wineman shows on the U.S. Census for 1910 at Mt Pleasant township, Whiteside county, Illinois On this census, John is 76 years old and is not listed as a farmer, but has own income. Sophia is listed as Sophie. She is 65 years old. There are no children still at home.

1912 Moved to California with husband to live with daughter INA in 1912. (Per her letter to the family)
Cen1920 1920 Sophia Wineman appears on the 1920 census in the household of son in law Frank W Hahn at 127 South Bayless Ave, Los Angeles city, Los Angeles county, California.  Frank is 64 years old, a brakeman for a steam Railroad. Wife is Ina C who is 53 years old. (Ina is the daughter of Sophia)  Both were born in Illinois and both set of parents were born in Germany.  Son, Harry M is 28 years old, a Fireman for a steam Railroad. Ina's mother, Sophia Feldman is in this household as a 73 year old widow. She was born in Germany.7

Death 3 Feb 1928 Sophia died on 3 February 1928 in California at age 83. There was an obituary in the Sterling Daily Gazette for Sophia.4,8   Only index to this obituaries is available online.
