Immigration circa 1854 John(Johann) G(eorge) Feldman immigrated circa 1854 from Germany Phil Feldman says that he may have come thru' Canada as he was evading the army. He was 17 or 18 years old. On the 1900 census he claims that he came to the US in 1854..1,3,4

CEN1860 1860 John(Johann) G(eorge) Feldman appears on the 1860 census of Clyde township, Whiteside county, Illinois taken on 1860.   He is 25 years old, born in Germany, living with Leonard Feldman who were assume is his brother. Both are working as farm laborers.5

Marriage between 1860 and 1865 John(Johann) G(eorge) Feldman married Sophia Wineman, daughter of Casper Wineman and Hannah Wagenlander, between 1860 and 1865 in Whiteside county, Illinois. In a letter to her family written 21 November 1917, she states that she lived in Morrison, Illinois from 1862 until 1912 and that she had 7 children. She lists her children as Jacob, Ina, Bertha, Frank, Carl, John and Artemus. No date for this marriage.1,2,6

Cen1870 June 1870 John(Johann) G(eorge) Feldman and Sophia Wineman appear on the 1870 census in Mt. Pleasant township, Whiteside county, Illinois. John is 34 years old, born in Baden, Germany but a US citizen. He owns $4000 of real estate and $2000 of personal property. They are living next door to George Henry Feldman, brother of John. Sophia is 25 years old and born in Wirtenburg. All the children were born in Illinois. Son Jacob is 5, daughter IVY is 2 and Mabelle is 5/12.7

Land 6 August 1870 We have a copy of Deed to North half of the North West Quarter of Section 28, T21N, R5E of the 4th PM that John purchased for $2000 (plus back taxes to 1863) made the 6 August 1870, recorded 30 May 1872, Vol 61, p 532. No wife listed on deed.8

Cen1880 8 September 1880 John(Johann) G(eorge) Feldman and Sophia Wineman show on the 1880 census for Mt. Pleasant township, Whiteside county, Illinois. John is 44 years old, born in Baden, Germany. Sophia is 35 years old. There are 5 children in the household, plus Sophia's mother who is a widow. Census is recorded as taken 15 June 1880 but was actually taken on 8 Sept. His two brothers have moved to town and are running a restaurant.9

Lot #55 in the cemetery in Morrison was owned by Jno. Feldman in 1875. We assume that Jno. Feldman was John Johann Feldman, the brother of Georg Henry.

Cen1900 15 June 1900 John(Johann) G(eorge) Feldman and Sophia Wineman show on the 1900 U.S. census in Mt. Pleasant township, Whiteside county, Illinois. John is a 64 year old farmer, born in Germany in October of 1835. Wife of 37 years is Sophia who was born in Germany in February 1845. John immigrated in 1854 and Sophia in 1859. Sophia has had 9 children, 7 of whom are living. (We only know the names of 8 of those children.) Children still at home are:
Frank J, born Sept 1875 in Illinois, farm manager.
John A., born May 1881, farmer
Artemus H, born Sept 1884 in school. The three children were born in Illinois.

Cen1910 1910 John(Johann) G(eorge) Feldman shows on the U.S. Census for 1910 at Mt Pleasant township, Whiteside county, Illinois On this census, John is 76 years old and is not listed as a farmer, but has own income. Sophia is listed as Sophie. She is 65 years old. There are no children still at home.

 
1912 By 1912 he was an invalid and moved to California with wife to live with a daughter. This daughter was Ina Feldman Hahn as Sophia is still living with them in 1920.2,6,10

Land June 1913 In June of 1913 the farm that John owned in Morrison was sold to son Jacob Willis. The other children signed quit claims in 1917.11

Death 2 October 1913 John(Johann) G(eorge) died on 2 October 1913 at Los Angeles,  California at age 77.2,12 
Burial John(Johann) was buried at Odd Fellows cemetery on Whittier Ave in Los Angeles, California.12,13
