Birth May 1887 Elsie was born in May 1887 at Morrison, Whiteside county, Illinois. This birth information is given on the 1900 census where she is 13 years old.2,3

(Cen1900 7 June 1900 Elsie Feldman shows on the 1900 U.S. census in the household of  her mother Caroline Margaret Schoch in Morrison, Whiteside county, Illinois. Caroline M Feldman is a 39 year old widow, born in Illinois is Feb 1861. She has had 4 children, 3 of whom are living. Son Alonzo J is 15, born in March 1885 in Illinois. Daughter Elsie C is 14, born in May 1887 and Daughter Ella May is 10, born in Jan of 1890. Christina Feldman, mother of Caroline's dead husband is a 70 year old widow, born in Germany in February of 1830. She has had 2 children, none of whom are living. A cousin, Susan Hensler is 23, born in Nov of 1876 in Illinois. She is a saleslady in a dry goods store.3

Cen1910 19 April 1910 Elsie Feldman appears on the 1910 census in the household of Caroline Margaret Schoch Morrison, Whiteside county, Illinois, Caroline is a 50 year old widow, she is employed as a "dress service"?? Daughter Elsie is 22 a stenographer in the abstract office and Ellamae is 20, not employed. The rent a house.4

Marriage #1 circa 1915 Elsie Feldman married Henry E Salomonson circa 1915. Elsie appears on the 1920 census with mother as Elsie C. Salmonson, 32 years old, a widow. On the 1930 census she says that she was first married when 28. Elsie would have been 28 about 1915.5  Since in 1910 Elsie is listed as a stenographer in an abstract office and in 1917 Henry claims to be an "abstractor", suspect that is how they met.

Henry died ca 18 February 1919 in Morrison, Whiteside county, Illinois.
Cen1920 4 February 1920 Elsie Feldman appears on the 1920 census in the household of Caroline Margaret Schoch at Morrison, Whiteside county, Illinois. Caroline is a 59 year old widow, born in Illinois, owns her house and is listed as the head of the household. Daughter Elsie appears as Elsie C. Salmonson, 32 a widow. Daughter EllaMae is married to George W. Green. They are both 29 years old. He is a general farmer.

Marriage #2 between 1920 and 1930 Elsie Feldman married Lee S Steiner between 1920 and 1930 in Morrison, Whiteside county, Illinois. It appears that this was a second marriage for both. Elsie says that she was first married when 28 and that was her age when she married Salmonson. Lee says that he first married when he was 26 and is 47 in 1930 therefore he must have married before also.6

(Witness) Cen 1930 3 April 1930 Elsie Feldman shows on the 1930 census, in Morrison, Whiteside county, Illinois, in the household of Caroline Margaret Schoch. This census was recorded on on 3 April 1930. Caroline appears as Carrie Feldman on this census. She is a 70 year old widow. She owns as $6000 house and has a radio. Daughter Elsie and her second husband are living in the same household. Elsie is 42, first married when 28. Her husband is Lee S Steiner, 47, a grocery store owner. He was first married when 26. There are no children.6

Note 1962 In 1962 Florence Mayer says that  this woman is living on West Main Street in Morrison, Illinois. She does not say if Mr. Steiner is living or not.7   He may have died about 1959 as there is an obituary in the Sterling Daily Gazette on 13 March 1959.  Problem is that it appears that his wife at this time was Maude Rounds!!  Does that mean that Elsie and Lee were divorced????   Or is this an obituary for his first wife and THEY were divorced??
Death 1970
 An obituary for Elsie Feldman Salmonson Steiner appeared in the Sterling Gazette on 11 November 1970.   It appears the funeral was held on 13 November 1970.
