Wife of 9 years is Flora who is 46 years old. They have one daughter Dorothea who is 4 years old and born in Iowa.

Cen 1930 12 April 1930 Dorothea Elizabeth Howard shows on the 1930 census, in 2230 Liberty Avenue, Clinton, Clinton, Iowa, in the household of John Calvin Howard and Flora Katherine Feldman. This census was recorded on on 12 April 1930. John is 85, born in New York. He was first married at 19. Wife Flora is 66, born in Illinois and first married at 32. Flora is employed as a "cateress" from home. Daughter Dorothea is 24 and is the assistant cashier at a bank.5

1933 Over the years Edith Fehrenbach Morin asked her many questions about the family, but it appears that only partial answers were given. Many times, Dorothea would speak of a person but ask that that person not be contacted, giving no reason.2

December 1933 She worked for a bank in Clinton for all of her working life. She never married but lived with a woman named Lillian. They came to Michigan one summer when I was about 8 or 9. That would be in the early 40's. Might have been before that as by 1942 NO ONE was going anywhere because of the war. Some of the bits and pieces about her life are.6

1965 1965 Still working at the bank in Clinton, Iowa. Severe flooding caused them to have to sandbag all the vaults.7
1966 Took an extended trip to Europe aboard the Queen Mary and the United States with Lillian.8
1978 Broke her ankle some time before this. Retired in this year tho' her obituary indicates that she retired in 1970.9,10,11

1993 1993 During the summer took a trip to Branson MO and Eureka Springs, Arkansas to see the Passion play. This was the summer of the severe floods in the Mid West. Clinton did not suffer to badly. She indicated that they tried to go to Branson at least once a year.7
1994 1994 Christmas letter indicates that she is still able to drive and get around but that Lillian, her companion, fell and was having trouble as a result.7
11 Feb 1995 Still working on other peoples income taxes and that sort of thing. She commented that she was very behind in what she had to do for these people. She will be 90 years old on 23 April of this year.13

August 1995 August 1995 Dorethea divided up many of the things that she had from her mother and had Gail and Carol send them to each of the cousins children.14   These were Feldman family dishes etc.
Dec 1996 December 1996 In her Christmas letter of this year she tells us that she is still driving a car. Uses a walker and cane and has had one broken hip. Still living in her home.15  She was 91 years old.
Death 27 March 2001 Dorothea Elizabeth died on 27 March 2001 at Clinton,  Clinton county, Iowa at age 95.  She was a month shy of 96 years old.16

Dorothea E. Howard, 95, Clinton, died Tuesday at the Alverno Health Care Facility in Clinton. Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory with the Rev. Ron Lott officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Interment will be Friday at Rose Hill Cemetery in Camanche. Pallbearers will be Vernon Rosenberger, Clarence Krogman, Mike Clemence, Kenneth Weaver, Bill Luckritz and Willis Petersen.

She was born April 23, 1905 to John and Flora Feldman Howard in Clinton. She was a 1922 graduated of Clinton High School. She was employed as an assistant vice president at First National Bank for more than 47 years, retiring in 1970. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the YWCA. Survivors include nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Death date: March 27, 2001.11
