States aboard the "Goethe" from Bremin and land at Baltimore on 16
February 1853. He was a weaver. This might be this George Winter. He
came alone. Another version of this immigration gives two children.

| Cen1880 | 11 June 1880 | Georg Winter shows on the 1880 census for Mt.
Pleasant township, Whiteside county, Illinois taken 11 June 1880. The
index has George as 64 years old, a farmer, born in Germany and wife is
Kate who is 60 and born in Germany. But in looking at the census I feel
that this reads as George being 68 and Kate as 64. The handwriting is
poor and blurred.4 |

has been in the US for 32 years, since 1867. Kate was born in Aug 1816
in Germany. She is 83 years old. They have been married for 53 years
and have had 4 children 3 of whom are living. They own their house. Son
Henry G is 42 years old, single born in Sept 1857 in Germany. He has
been in the US since 1867 and is a naturalized citizen. He is a
carpenter by trade.5 |

Fred is 62 years old, born in Germany and is a stone mason. He entered
the United States in either 1867 or 1869 and is a naturalized citizen.
Wife is Sarah. She is 55 years old, born in Germany and entered the
United States in 1867 or 69. This is her second marriage. She has had 9
children, 8 of whom are living. Two children are still at home. Henry
who is 20 and is a Barber with his own shop and Florence who is 13.
Both were born in Illinois.
Sarah's father is George Winter, who is 90 year old widower. He arrived
in the US in 1869 and is still an alien. His language is German.
Everyone else speaks English. Sarah's brother, Henry is 52, single,
entered the US in 1867 and is a naturalized citizen. He is a carpenter.6 |
