12 Sept 1918 On 12 September 1918 James regestered for the draft of World War I. He is a farmer for himself, has grey eyes and brown hair and is of medium statue. Gives birth date and next of kin. Next of kin is Winfred S. Outland who we assume is his wife..2

29 June 1943 On 29 June 1943 James Simon Outland married,  for the FIFTH time, Oakie Shilling in Decatur, Adams county, Indiana. This was a second marriage for Oakie. Her father was Sylvester Clapsaddle and mother was Cynthia Drake. At the time they were married James was living in West Liberty, Logan county, Ohio and Oakie was living in Bellefountain, Logan county Ohio.6

Death 1 August 1950 James Simon died on 1 August 1950 at Zanesville, Jefferson township, Logan county,  Ohio at age 68. He is buried in Zanesville cemetery. He died of pneumonia, aggrevated by bronchial asthma, emphysema and heart disease. He was at one time a Logan county Commissioner and appears to have held that job at the time of his death. He died in the Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefountaine, Logan county, Ohio.7,8
