Obituary:
ROSSEY ELLEN – September 12, 1918 – C. L. Rossey, of Clarion Township, received the sad intelligence on the 30th of July that his mother, Ellen Rossey, aged 65 years, and the widow of Peter Rossey, late of Millcreek Township, this county, had died at the Kane Hospital following an operation for a gun shot would she received at the hands of a young man near Clarington, in Forest County, one week preceding. Mrs. Rossey was in the woods gathering berries when the shot was discharged at her. She made an ante mortem statement in which she stated that the young declared to her after the shooting that he did not know the gun was loaded when he pointed it at her and snapped the trigger, and that she and he had been friends and that she did not know of any reason for the shooting.

It is said that he made contradictory statements concerning the shooting, claiming to some that he did not know that the gun was loaded, and to others that he thought she was a bear. Relatives of the deceased may prosecute the youth for involuntary manslaughter in the court of Forest County. Mrs. Rossey is survived by the following children: Mrs. A. R. Bailey, Sheffield; Mrs. D. Walters and W. M.. Rossey, Clarington; Mrs. M. C. Fitzgerald and C.M. Rossey, Warren; L. M. Rossey, Rimersburg; Mrs. H. L. McKendree, Mayburg; C. T. Rossey, Sligo, C. B. Rossey, Marienville; Mrs. G. C. T. Hoff, Hallton, and Mrs. D. Cook, Endeavor. She also leaves these brothers and sisters: James E. Hannold, Clarion; R. M. Hannold, Williamsburg; Mrs. Clinger, Corsica, and Mrs. Jordan of Hays.
