appears on this census as Laurence HONHOLD. he is 25 years old. Age is
in for whatever reason. He works in a saw?? mill. Wife is Nancy J who
is 24. Again, age is in . Two daughters are Adda 4 and Bertha 2.3 |
| Cen1900 | 11 June 1900 | Nancy Jane Bailey shows on the 1900 U.S. census in
Barnett township, Forrest county, Pennsylvania. Lawrence appears as
Lawrence HANHOLD on this census. He is 50 years old and born in April
of 1850. That IS NOT consistent with other information about his birth
date. He is a farmer and has been married for 25 years to Nancy J. who
was born in July 1855. IF they have been married for 25 years then ADDA
was born before they were married and that is not so. Therefore we
believe that they were married for 26-27 years in 1900. Nancy has had
12 children, 10 of whom are living. Of those 10 children 8 are still in
this household. Katie, born Feb 1883, 17 years old Arnold, born Nov 1884, 15 years old, employed as a day laborer Elmer, born Jan 1887, 13 years old, employed as a day laborer Hattie (this is Harriet), born Feb 1889, 12 years old Wayne, born Aug 1893 6 years old Mary, born Aug 1895, 4 years old Chester, born Oct 1896, 3 years old Herman, born Dec 1898, 1 year old The children's birth date and birth order are not consistent with other information that we have. We have Arnold as born in 1880. If that is true then he would be about 20 rather than 15 on this census. Katherine (Katie) birth date has been given as 22 Feb 1888, which MIGHT be correct, the 1883 could be 1888 but then she would be 12 years old and not 17 on this census. Elmer we have as being born in 1884 and not 1887. The 1884 may be correct sine he is employed in 1900 and would be about 16 rather than 13. We had Wayne as younger than Mary and have not changed that. With as many children as there were in this family it is not surprising that some of the birthdates could have been confused.4 |
