Birth* December 1857 Edward Payson was born in December 1857 at Grove, Allegany county, New York. He is 5 on the 1860 census, 14 in 1870 and 22 on the 1880. Suspect that he was born about 1855 but after the 1855 New York census as he does NOT appear on that. On the 1900 census she says that he was born in December of 1857 and is 42 years old.1 
(Witness) CEN1860 24 July 1860 Edward Payson Havens appears on the 1860 census with Chancellor Livingston Havens and Rosanna Sheffield taken on 24 July 1860 in Grove township, Allegany county, New York. On this census Chancellor and Rosanna are living with her parents and the census makes it appear as tho' John Sheffield, 78 years old is the head ot the household. He has $300 of real estate and $50 of personal property. Wife is Catherine, 68 years old, son Ephraim is 32, has $400 of real estate and $100 of personal property and is not married. Chancellor is 40 years old, born in New York, owns $560 of real estate and $300 of personal property, Rosanna is 38. Children are Susannah 17, Clara Jane 9, Rudolph A or H is 7 and Edward P is 5, all born in New York and all in school. These four children are still alive at the time of the death of their father in 1905.3 
(Witness) Cen1870 July 1870 Edward Payson Havens appears on the 1870 census in the household of Chancellor Livingston Havens in Grove, Allegany county, New York. Chancellor is 51 own $700 of real estate, Rosina is 48, Daughter Clara is 18, son Rudolf is 16 and Edward is 14.4 
(Witness) Cen1880 1880 Edward Payson Havens shows in the household of Chancellor Livingston Havens on the 1880 census of Grove, Allegany county, New York taken 1880. Chancellor appears as C. L. He is 55 years old. Therefore born ca 1825. He was born in New York, father born in New York and mother born in Rhode Island. Chancellor is a farmer and suffered from diarhea during the past year. Wife in Rosann, 55 years old. Edward is 22 and the only child still at home. They are fam 16, Res 16. On this same sheet are:

Cen1910* 7 May 1910 Edward Payson Havens shows on the U.S. Census for 1910 at Annin township, McKean county, Pennsylvania Edward P is a 52 year old widower, living in a rented house, working as farm labor. Son George is 19 and is working at odd jobs.9

Edward Payson died after 1910 as he shows on the 1910 census. Mike Shroeder says that only Edward and son George appear on this census. He does not show on the 1920 index.10,1
