Jacob Hasselbeck
Jacob Hasselbeck is the son of Jacob and Katherina Hasselbeck. Jacob was born in Bavaria on March 5, 1847. According to census record Jacob arrived in the United States arround 1867 and arround 1870 Married Barbara Neufeld who was born in Bavaria in July 1847 and arrivied in the United States arround 1867.
They had five children, three boys and two girls. The boys were Joseph, Charles & George. The girls were Katherine and Hattie.
Jacob started off by owning a planning mill and lumber yard and then later a contractor. He became a prominent and weel know contractor in the Buffalo area. He was also politically active, in 1883 and 1884 he was an alderman serving the old sixth ward for the City of Buffalo and later he was appointed to the old park commission. In the early 1900's he was instrumental in the founding of the first volunteer fire company in nearby Cheektowaga, New York and was its first president.
