The following are a collection of Death Notices, Funeral Notices and Obituaries that I have aquired from newspapers, and have transcribed, for the HARTSOOK Family Line, which includes the Dyer, Hagan, Kelly, Payton, Schoessler, Smith and Wilcoxson Families.

The Dyer Family

Ruby Lorraine Wilkes Dyer

Obiturary

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 8, 1999, in Sts. Peter & Paul Episcopal Church for Ruby Lorraine Dyer, who died September 3 at age 88.
Mrs. Dyer was born December 28, 1910, in Mountaindale. Her maiden name was Wilkes. After graduating from high school in Longview, Washington, she was a linotype operator for the Longview Daily News. She moved to Portland in 1945 and worked for Schetky Equipment Co., Oregon Wool Growers and in the Providence Hospital admitting department, retiring in 1976. A 54-year member of the church, she was a founding member of Our Lady of Walsingham and St. Benedict's Guild. In 1930, she married John C.; he died in 1950.
Survivors include her son, John "Jack" of Portland; foster son, Red Robbins of Longview; five grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
Private interment will be in Raffety Cemetery in Mountaindale. Arrangements are by Gable & Parkrose Funeral Chapel.

Obituary

HAGAN...Elizabeth, died Dec. 22: mother of John, Brownsville, Tex., daughter of Mrs. T.C. Hartsook, city, sister of Lemuel P. Hartsook. Friends are invited to attend funeral services Thursday, Dec. 27, at 11am, at the Chapel of McGinnis & Wilhelm, Morticians, 6637 SE Milwaukie. Concluding services at Lincoln Memorial Park.

Death Notice

Mrs. Lizzie G. Hagan - News has been received in Cairo of the death of Mrs. Lizzie G. Hagan, age 72, who died on December 22, in Cincinnati, Ohio. The body was taken to Portland, Ore, for interment. Mrs. Hagan is survived by one son, John Hagan of Brownsville, Tex, who formerly lived in Cairo.

Lula Myra Hagan

Obituary

Lula Myra Holt Hagan, age 100, of Paducah, Kentucky, formerly of Quitman, Arkansas, passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2005, at the Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah. Born in Milburn, Kentucky, on February 21, 1905, she was the daughter of the late Billy M. and Era Alice (Brent) Holt. Mrs. Hagan was a telephone operator, and she retired from Illinois Bell Telephone Company and the United States Weather Bureau. She was a member of the National Association of Retried Federal Employees and the American Association of Retired Persons. She was a member of the Baptist church. Her husband, John C. Hagan, preceded her in death. Her son, William J. Hagan, and her brother, Rufus C. Brown, also preceded her in death.Mrs. Hagan is survived by one sister, Alice McLain of St. Louis, Missouri; two grandchildren, Marc Hagan and Adele Biasiolli, and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services and interment will be held Friday, May 6, 2005, at 1:00 p.m. in Cleburne County Memorial Gardens with Rev. Kenneth Puckett officiating. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc.

George William Hartsook

Obituary

A memorial service for George William Hartsook of North Portland, a retired carpenter, will be at noon Friday in the Chapel of St. Johns Funeral Home. Interment will be in Willamette National Cemetery.
Mr. Hartsook died of a stroke Monday in a Portland Hospital. He was 72.
Born December 16, 1919, in Portland, he was a graduate of Jefferson High School. Mr. Hartsook served in the U. S. Army during World War II and retired as a Major after 21 years of active duty and service in the Army Reserve. He married Patricia Ball on May 11, 1943, in Portland. ( Should read Long Beach California.)
Mr. Hartsook worked as a commerical carpenter in the Portland area for more than 30 years. He had been involved in the building of the Day Lodge at Mount Hood.
Survivors besides his wife include his sons, Stephen, John, David and Glen, and his daughters, Cheryl Dyer and Barbara, all of Portland; and four grandchildren.

Rites Thursday

Funeral services for Isaac N Hartsook, 80, will be conducted at Burns Mortuary Chapel this morning (Thursday) at 10 with Fr. Leopold O'Riordan officiating. Burial will be in the Hermiston Cemetery.
Mr. Hartsook, who died at Umatilla Hospital March 19, followed construction most of his life and built many public buildings and homes in Hermiston. He came to Hermiston in 1920, moved to Irrigon three years ago and resided there until his death.
Survivors include his widow, Jane, in Irigon and a brother, Lemuel T Hartsook, in Newport.

Jane Hartsook

Mrs. Jane Hartsook, resident of Hermiston for many years, died at St. Anthony's Hospital in Pendelton Feb 21. Requiem Mass wa Saturday at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church, with Recitation of the Rosary at Burns Mortuary Chapel last Friday at 7:30 p.m.
She was born in Quincy, Ill., October 30, 1877. She taught school in Illinois two years, then moved to Portland, where she was employed as a bookkeeper at Olds and King department store (now Rhodes) for a year and worked for many years in the Drug Supply in Portland in the credit department.
She married Ike Hartsook in Portland in 1918, coming to Hermiston where they resided on the North Hill for many years. Her husband, who preceded her in death a few years ago, was a carpenter who built many of the buildings in Hermiston and was a building inspector at Umatilla Army Depot for some years.
Mrs. Hartsook belonged to Our Lady of Angels Altar Society since 1918 and she and her husband were members of some of the farm organizations for years. She leaves no immediate family, but some cousins in Portland and Quincy, Ill., survive.

A Memorial Service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003 in St. Johns Funeral Home for Patricia Jane Hartsook, who died Feb. 3 at age 77.
Patricia Ball was born Oct. 27, 1925 in Portland. She graduated from Jefferson High School and worked for J. C. Penny. In 1943 she married George W.; he died in 1992.
Survivors include her sons,Steven, John, David & Glen; daughters, Cheryl Dyer and Barbara Hartsook; four grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

Clifford Eugene Smith of Eugene died May 18, 2003. Born September 10, 1916 in Portland to Charles and Leo Stone Smith. Married June 17, 1939 to Cuma Hartsook.

Obituary

Death Of An Old Citizen--Patrick Kelly, of Liberty township, father of Maurice Kelly, Representative in the Legislature, died on Saturday last of paralysis. The deceased was one of the early settlers of this portion of Illinois and was well known to all the old residents of this and adjoining counties. He came to Adams county in 1838 where he resided until his death. He was a good citizen, respected by all who knew him. He was an active member of the Catholic church, honest and consistent in his daily life. Mr. Kelly had been a subscriber to the Herald since 1845.

Mary, wife of Peter Brennan, died of pneumonia at family home in this city after 10 days illness at 4 am last Sunday the 4th inst. Born in Ireland, 64 years old. Was sister of Maurice Kelly, (formerly state senator) of Liberty, Adams County. Leaves 4 daughters, Minnie, Nora, Jane and Anna. Funeral at 10 am Tuesday by Rev Father Cawley. Peter Brennan who was confined to bed with pleurisy when wife died soon followed her in death at 4 pm Tuesday last. He was born County Meath, Ireland. Was 75 years old, came to this coutnry as a boy with his parents.

MISS PAYTON DIES

Horse Cave Loses One Of Her Most Popular And Noble Young Women.

At the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. I. N. Payton, in Horse Cave, Miss Mary Mattie Payton, better known to numerous friends as "Mamie", died after a lingering illness of several weeks.
Miss Payton had been in poor health for sometime and they had spent the greater part of the winter in Florida in search of her health, returning to Horse Cave only a short time ago.
Mamie was born April 7, 1894; was a member of the Horse Cave Baptist church and a favorite in our social circles. She was a young woman who had won the admiration of all her friends; both old and young looked upon her as a true, noble and pure character and pointed to her as one of whom the town and community had reason to be proud to call their own.
Funeral services were conducted at the Baptist church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. J. A. Booth, assisted by Rev. A. D. Leitchfield. Interment in the Horse Cave Cemetery.
The deceased is survived by her father, mother, and two brothers and one sister: Leland, Louis and Alen Payton. to these bereaved ones is extended the deep sympatey of the whole community.

RESOLUTIONS

Whereas God in His Infinite wisdon has called from among us our former school-mate and class-mate, one whom we loved and whose memory we revere.

There be it resolved:

First. That we do all in our power to emulate her example as a Christian, as a member of society, as a child in the home and in every walk in life. Realizing that "Her ways were ways of pleasantness, and all her paths were peace."

Second. That we bow in humble submission to the will of Him who doeth all things well, and trusting in His assured hope of immortal glory, prepare ourselves to meet her.

third. that a copy of these Resolutions be sent to the home, a copy published in the Hart County Herald, and a copy placed in the Minutes of the Horse Cave High School Literary Society.

The Schoessler Family

Obiturary

A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, March 12, 2001, in Rose City Cemetery for Amelia Schoessler, who died March 5 at age 82.
Mrs. Schoessler was born October 25, 1918, in Kansas City, Missouri, and was raised in Portland. Her maiden name was Greb. She graduated from Commerce High School, and she and her husband were partners in J. Greb & Son until their retirement in the mid 1980's. In 1937, she married Theodore Schoessler; he died in 1984.
Survivors include her daughters, Pamela Hartsook and Joan Knebel; brother, Victor Greb; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The Wilcoxson Family

Martha Ann Middleton Wilcoxson

Obituary

Mrs. Martha Ann Wilcoxson was born Nov. 25, 1833; died Oct. 25, 1914, aged eighty years and eleven months.
Mrs. Wilcoxson was formerly a Miss Middleton, of Shelby County, and was married to George F. Wilcoxson Dec. 23, 1852, to this union eleven children were born, nine of whom are yet living.
Mrs. Wilcoxson made a profession of religion and joined the Baptist chruch many years ago and lived an exemplary christian life until death. Her membership being at Rock Springs chruch.
Funeral sermon was preached by Rev. J.C. Cook from psalm 35:14.
