Sarah Ball Williams

Obituary

Mrs. Sarah Williams

Mrs. Sarah Williams departed this life at 9 p. m. Sunday after a critical illness of more than two months. She had been living alone for more than a year and when sickness came upon her it became necessary to have some one with her so a nurse was employed, soon one was not able to do all and for the past three weeks two ladies wee employed, both of whom were faithful workers and both were at the bedside at the end.
Mrs. Williams was a very worthy woman, having always been an honest, industrious personage, ever ready to assist those in need and even deprived herself of the necessaries, in order to give her hard earnings to those whom she saw needed help. She took no thought of their unworthiness but seemed to gladly relieve the wants of any, regarding not self.
Neighbors and friends, knowing her unselfishness in all things, responded to the unvoiced calls during the last two months of her days upon earth and gladly assisted sharing of their earthly store with her. I think there was not a neighbor asked to assist, who refused.
Sarah Sawins was born July 4, 1836, in Ashtabula, Ohio, died at her home in White Cloud, April 4, 1914, aged 77 years, 9 months and 1 day. Her parents long since departed were Amos Ball, Sr., born in Woodbury, Vt., January 3, 1811 and Fanny Sawins, born in Marsfield, Vt., December 13, 1806. Was married on Dec. 19, 1857 at Massillon, Iowa, to charles Williams, who departed this life some 30 years ago. To this union four children wee born, one only survives, Milo Williams, formerly of White Cloud, but who for more than a year has been on a "claim" near Tippett, Neb. She leaves several grandchildren, also a half brother and sister, Alphas Ball and Mrs. Alice Dutton, both living near Sparks, Kas. For a number of years Mrs. Williams and her family lived near Iowa Point, Kas., later moving to White Cloud and she leaves many friends at both places, who have displayed their frindship during her last illness. She united with the Christian church at Iowa Point about 35 years ago and was faithful in her convictions to the end.
The funeral services were conducted by the Christian minister from Highland, Rev. Ellsworth Day, who conducted a short service at the home at 12 o'clock on Tuesday, after which the remains were taken to the church at Iowa Point, where the funeral sermon was preached and the body was laid to rest beside that of her husband in the Iowa Point cemetery.
