Above, The line from Swanage to Wareham was taken out in the 1960's like many other local branch lines. It has recently been restored, mainly by volunteers and is now working again using Steam Engines, as far as Norden. (north of Corfe Castle).

The Paddleboat "Waverley" was built at the Pointhouse shipyard in Glasgow in 1946. She has been preserved and during 2000 was overhauled and rebuilt at Great Yarmouth. Many of the original fittings were retained and new safety equipment incorporated. During the peak season the ship tours the country, stopping at various resorts for a couple of weeks and offering cruises around local landmarks. From Swanage, Bournemouth and Poole cruises are available to the Isles of Wight and Portsmouth harbour. I didn't want to go but Sandie forced me.
