I Jonas Harrison of Newark Essex County and State of New Jersey, being of sound mind and memory do make and publish this for my last will and testament----
I devise to my Son Aaron Harrison to his heirs and assigns forever in fee simple ten acres of land to be taken off the west Northerly side of a tract of land partly wood partly cleared, which said tract is bounded West by Jotham Harrisons & Joseph Lindsley's land, Northerly by land formerly belonging to Jonathan Sayre, Easterly on Justus Baldwin's land and Southerly by Captain Robert Nichols lands.
The residue of the above mentioned such land to be divided into three parts
equal in Quantity as near as may be, by John Morris, David Rogers and Justus
Baldwin or any two of them or the survivor or survivors of them in writing under
their hands and seals, which said parts I devise to my sons Moses, Daniel
and Jabez, each part to be chosen by them by lot to be held by them in
severally according to their respective lots, their heirs and assigns forever
in fee simple. Which said Division I order to be made and complete in six months
after my decease and the same when complete to be filed in the Clerks Office
for the County of Essex----
I devise to my youngest son Jabez his heirs and assigns forever in
fee simple four acres of land [illegible-looks like two words] off the most
Southerly part of a tract of land lying in a place called The Great Swamp [illegible-looks
like five words] bounded Southerly on the Parsonage Swamp and Easterly on Stephen
Plum's lands
The residue of the above last mentioned tract of land I devise to my two sons Aaron and Daniel to be equally divided between them in manner and form above mentioned by the said John Morris, David Rogers & Justus Baldwin to be taken by lot as foresaid and [illegible-looks like one word] in severally as afsd by the said Aaron & Daniel their heirs and assigns forever in fee simple.
I devise to my sons Aaron, Daniel & Jabez all that tract of salt
meadow situated below the old Ferry landing, Easterly on the Pasaich River Westerly
on the upland, Northerly on an old ditch and Southerly on Meadow belonging to
Mr. Rogers; to be divided into three equal parts in manner above prescribed
and drawn for by Lots, to be held in severally as afsd by my said sons Aaron,
Daniel and Jabez their heirs and assigns forever in fee simple.
I devise to my son Jabez his heirs and assigns forever in fee simple
my house and a part of my home lot [illegible-looks like one word] as to contain
two acres of land adjoining the old Ferry road and Wheeler's Point Land
running across to Stephen Baldwin's land.
I devise to my son Daniel his heirs and assigns forever the residue
of my home Lot which extends to the ditch that [illegible-looks like one word]
the little cove.
I devise to my son Aaron his heirs and assigns forever all that tract
of land separated from the homestead by the above mentioned Ditch joining the
Old Ferry road which comes to Timothy Andrus's lands thence running Easterly
along his line to Stephen Baldwin's land; thence running along his line till
it meets a straight line drawn from and in the direction of the aforementioned
ditch a small distance from the head of the ditch, Subject never the less to
and chargeable with the payment of the Legacies hereinafter mentioned and also
to my debts, And in case my said son Aaron shall neglect or refuse to pay and
discharge the several figures hereinafter bequeathed at the times herein specified
and who my oldest I hereby authorize my Executors of the Survivor of them or
the Heirs of such survivor to enter upon the last above described tract of land
devised to Aaron and sell the same in fee simple for the payment of the Legacies
herein bequeathed and of my debts and to my funeral costs in their own name
or name of Decd. therefore.
I give and bequeath to my oldest son Moses one hundred and twenty five
Dollars to be paid him in twelve months after my decease.
I give and bequeath to my oldest Daughter Lydia the wife of William
Nixon one hundred and twenty five Dollars to be paid her in twelve months after
my decease.
I bequeath to my Daughter Polly the wife of Baldwin Force one hundred
Dollars to be paid her in twelve months after my decease.

I bequeath to my Daughter Sarah Harrison one hundred Dollars to be
paid her in twelve months after my decease.
I bequeath to my Daughter Esther Harrison one hundred Dollars to be
paid her in twelve months after my decease.
I give and bequeath to my son Aaron all my personal estate, subject
to the payment of all the afsd Legacies and of all my debts and funeral charges;
and in case of his refusal or neglect to pay the same within twelve months after
my decease I hereby authorize my Executors or the Survivor of them to sell and
dispose of all or so much of my personal estate as will be sufficient to discharge
the same, and the surplus of the sale of the personal estate and land before
directed to be sold as afsd. or of either of them, if any there be, shall be
returned to my said son Aaron after the payment of my debts and the Legacies
as afsd.
Lastly I appoint Capt. Caleb Wheeler and Stephen Baldwin Executors of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereto set my hand and seal this sixth day of November in the year of our Lord Seventeen hundred and ninety eight.

To all to whom these present shall come Know ye that I the subscriber do make
and declare this writing to be a codicil and part of my last will within contained,
that is to say I do revoke annul & declare void the devise to my
son Moses of the portion of that tract of land which is bounded
West by Jotham Harrison & Joseph Lindsly's land, Northerly by land
belonging to Jonathan Sayre & Easterly on Justus Baldwin's land Southerly
Capt Robt Nicholls's land which portion of sd tract is devised to my son Moses
in my sd. last will and the same portion of land that was devised to my son
Moses I hereby devise & grant to my other three sons Aaron, Jabez &
Daniel their heirs & assigns in fee simple to be equally divided between
them by friends John Morris, David Rodgers & Justus Baldwin in the manner
as they are directed by my sd will to divide what is called the residue of sd
tract in the second devise contained in my will. Item. I give & bequeath
to my three daughters Polly, Sarah & Esther in addition to what is
given them in my sd will, twenty five dollars to each and every of my three
daughters, and subject the same property real and personal which is given in
my will to my son Aaron and therein subject to the payment of the legacies
therein contained to the payments of these additional bequests to my three daughters
to be paid in like manner with the legacies given to them in my sd. will. In
witness whereof I have hereto set my hand and seal this 24th day of December

Aaron Coe & Josiah Harrison two of the witnesses to the within will hereto annexed on their oaths say that they saw Jonas Harrison the Testator therein named sign and seal the same & heard him publish, pronounce & declare the within [illegible word] hereto annexed to be his last will & testament, that at the doing thereof the sd. Testator was of sound & discerning mind & memory so far as these deponents know and as they verily believe, & that Alexander C. McWhorter the other subscribing witness was present the same time & subscribed his name as a witness to the sd. will together with these deponents in the presence of the sd. Testator.

Jonathan Sayre one of the witnesses to the codicil annexed to the within will
on his Oath says that he saw Jonas Harrison the testator therein named sign
& seal same & heard him publish pronounce & declare the sd instrument
to be a codicil & part of his last will & testament I hereto WORD that
at the doing thereof the sd. Testator was of sound & discerning mind &
memory so far as this deponent knows & as he verily believes, & that
Alexander C. McWhorter and Joseph Ball the other subscribing witnesses
were present at the same time & signed their names as witnesses to the sd.
codicil in the presence of the sd. testator together with this deponent.

Stephen Baldwin one of the executors in the within testament named being duly
sworn did depose & say, that these within instruments contain the true last
will & testament & codicil annexed of Jonas Harrison the testator therein
named, so far as he knows & verily believes, that the will well and truly
performs the same, by paying first the debts of the sd. deceased, and then the
Legacies in the sd. testament specified, so far as the goods, chattels &
credits of the sd. deceased can thereunto extend, and that he will make
& exhibit into the prerogative office at Trenton a true & perfect inventory
of all & singular the goods, chattels & credits of the sd. deceased,
that have or shall come to his knowledge or possession or to the possession
of any other person or persons for this use, and render a just & true account
when this county lawfully required.
