Maxwell History and Genealogy, by Florence Wilson Houston, published a transcript of the diary of Rev. John Craig, first pastor of Old Tinkling spring Presbyterian Church in present Rockingham County (then Augusta) [Tinkling Springs Church is in Augusta Co. 1740-present. Not sure why this source thinks it is Rockingham bbb ]. Rev. Craig kept an interesting list of baptisms during his pastorate, both in his own and neighboring congregations. His record began October 5, 1740 and continued through September 28, 1749, during which time he baptised 463 males and 420 females. Among whom were Jeremiah Harrison and two of his children, Lydia Donnell Harrison and Nehemiah Harrison. On July 27, 1744, He baptised Elizather Herison "an adult person", and on January 21, 1747 he baptised Abigail Harrison "another adult person". This Elizabeth Herison is believed to have been the wife of Tunis Hood. Among other baptisms recorded by Rev. John Craig were Robert and Margaret Hood, April 27, 1749, children of John Hood, and on November 27, 1749, John Hood, another son of John Hood. This John Hood is believed to have been the brother of Tunis Hood.

Josephine Lindsay Bass received 3 letters that Bettye Harrison,1219 W. Market St. Athens, AL 35611 had received dated June 5, 1978, Jan 28, 1979, Feb 14, 1979, by James M. Aye (now deceased), 406 Chapel Drive, Collinsville, Illinois 62234. Mr. Aye's reference is a copy of a letter, written in 1889 by his ggf, Judge Harvey Harrison of Johnson Co. MO. This letter was in the posession of a third Harrison cousin, a general now retired and living in Virginia. Judge Harvey was the generals great grandfather.

[S328]

The Harrison Family Cemetery was located on the farm of James Harrison, later owned his son Joseph in Athens, Limestone Co., AL. The property was eventually purchased by FRENCH. The gravestones were reportedly removed by the owner in the 1970's. FRENCH denied the existence of the cemetery but many citizens of Athens remembered the site of the old graveyard. In 1995, Wal-Mart planned to purchase the land for a new Super Store. Josephine Lindsay Bass, a descendent of James & Elizabeth Harrison, was instrumental in delaying development until the graves could be located and moved for proper burial in the Athens City Cemetery. The move was conducted by an archaelogical team for which a report and photographs were prepared.
