In 1789 Rev Stephen Brooks met Bishop Asbury at the Newbern, NC conference and immediately set out in company with Asbury for KY, passing through Upper East TN and Cumberland Gap to the Lexington Circuit. In 1792 he was on the Greene Circuit in E. TN, he settled down. He was sent by the people as a delegate to write a constitution for the proposed new state which became TN. He was the first Grand Chaplain of the Grand Masonic Lodge of TN.
Three of his sons and five of his grandsons became Methodist Ministers. [S465]
