Notes

Moved from Virginia to Athens AL early in their marriage where they owned a large plantation and a number of slaves. They moved to Upshur Co. TX in 1856. They came in a covered wagon, two small chairs used in the wagon covered with cow-hide are still in possession of one of the descendants. They settled at Simpsonville near Gilmer, TX on a large acreage, where the deer and wild turkey were in abundance. Shortly after the move he was elected to serve in the Texas Legislature. A pair of homespun trousers he wore while in this office is a family keep-sake.

William A. Harrison age 14 (son of John P. Harrison, brother, was raised by William Henry & Martha Hobbs Malone), and Elizabeth Gray age 23 b. AL also living in the household in 1850 (dau?). ^[S74]
