In 1828, he published a weekly newspaper, which was political, religious, and agricultural in nature. He disagreed with the teachings of his church, withdrew, and founded the Christian Church in Anderson County. He reprinted the entire Bible with annotations.
He est. Evergreen Academy. Evergreen was noted for its stock, much of which was obtained from Col. Wade Hampton II at Millwood. Ribbons were awarded for the best stallion (Monarch), best heifer and ewe at 1848 state fair. It is said that he attended Heidelberg Univeristy in Germany.
In 1845 a devastating fire at Anderson started at Earle's store, which was destroyed along with much of the village. Earle died in 1848, and his eldest son, Elias John Earle bought Evergreen from the estate. After his death in 1897, his heirs soled Evergreen to J. J. Fretwell, who resold it to a Negro, Andy Martin. The new owner, unimpressed with landscaping, immediately cut down the towering cedar trees and sold them for telephone posts. The house burned to the gound in 1970. [S14]
