Notes
John Burks was a farmer in VA of Irish descent. he married Mary Kendrick and had eight children. He moved to KY from Amherst co VA before Barren Co was organized about 1792. He settled at Blue Spring Grove near present day Hiseville. In 1799 one of the first acts of the New Barren county court was to authorize his to operate a tavern at his home. In the county he was ordered several times to perform such functions as to view the location of roads to be built in the new sparsely settled county.
