Alice Day Smith wrote that he was their G,G,GF in 'Story of an Old
Home and 1812 House'....'From an old deed we find Jonathan Smith, our
great, great grandfather, was possessed of several tracts of land in
the 'bounds of Newark' - now Caldwell - one of these was conveyed by
James, Earl of Perth by the Honorable Thomas Drummond, his Attorney,
on 13 FEB 1773; these four tracts of one hundred and twenty acres were
conveyed to John Smith, great grandfather on 21 JAN 1794.' See also
'Descendants of John Mills Smith' for speculation on who his wife
might have been.
