Per letter from Mrs. Margaret Copeland to her cousin Mrs. Herman D. (Laura Gibson Davis, July 12, 1953, from Miami, Ariz. She said that her grandfather was JOHN ADAIR GIBSON, and that there were 3 other children. He was born Sept 25, 1787 and was 2 years old when Indians killed his father, JOHN GIBSON. The widow moved via covered wagon to Mississippi along with SAMUEL GIBSON and his family. The latter founded Port Gibson. The party came from Tennessee. She stated that there was a life size painting of SAMUEL GIBSON at Port Gibson.

One report from the War Department reads: "the Indians killed John Gibson and wounded McMoon, in Gibson's field, within eight miles of Nashville."
