Mother: Keziah COCKRELL |
I think this is the correct interpretation of Meynard "[John] was 21 years old when he married his neighbor, Jemima Jenkins. The Jenkins family had moved to Greenville county from Virginia in 1784 and settled on Reedy River just south of the Harrison plantation. Mrs. Jenkin's father, Owen Williams (m. Keziah Cockrell of Culpeper Co., Va), was a well known sculptor and stone cutter in Virginia who made the ornamental work for Falls Episcopal Church. Jenkins became one of the wealthy and proment men of Greenville County, and Jenkins Road, which ran by his plantation, still carries his name." This would indicate that Jemima was a widow (or divorced) when John H married her. [S14]
