Corbin, Five Generations of Connecticut Harrisons, p. 3 4. Vital Records of Branford, CT. 5. Charles L. Harrison, Harrison Genealogy 6. The Camp Collection, Conn. Hist. Soc. Library : Sgt Richard HARRISON m ? Sarah HUBBARD Samuel HARRISON m Mary WARD Mary HARRISON m Peter CUNDITT Nathaniel CONDIT m Elizabeth OGDEN Mary CONDIT m George PERSONETT Mary 'Polly' PERSONETT m Encrease GOULD Moses GOULD m Rebekah GOULD Encrease Personette GOULD m Mary Jane DOUGLAS Elizabeth 'Libby' Douglas GOULD m Frank Harrison BALDWIN Personette Gould BALDWIN m Ruth Florence HAWLEY Ruth Elizabeth BALDWIN m Ervin Edwin WHITE Beverly WHITE m Robert Frank CRIFASI I only learned about my relationship to this branch of the HARRISONs, WARDs &CONDIT/CUNDITTs recently, and also had the impression that Richard was married to Sarah HUBBARD, although the 'evidence' is confusing. I'm very interested in exchanging info with you about this. I have a couple of references, but have not had a chance to work back through their references. Have you seen/used/debunked/confirmed any of these: 1. 'Ancestors and Family of Fillmore Condit (1855-1939) and Jane Condit Robison (1882-1972). Part II of Robison Family History' by William Condit Robison and Elizabeth Robison Jennings, Berkeley, CA: Privately Published, 1985. This source includes the following: Sergent Richard HARRISON (b ca 1620,England, d ? NJ; son of Ricard HARRISON) m Sarah HUBBARD (b 1635 CT, d 1675 NJ) dau of George HUBBARD (1591-1683) and Mary BISHOP (CA 1610-1673) dau of John BISHOP b in England. The authors cited the following sources: 'Harrison Family' in Appendix to 'Genealogical Record of the Condit Family,1678 to 1885' Newark, NJ: 1885, reprinted 1980. [I have this one and it does not provide Srgt. Richard's wife] 'Five Generations of Connecticut Harrisons', by Mrs. Frances Harrison Corbin, in 'The NEH&G Reg, vol 70, pp 69-86.'The Pageant of NJ History' William Lewin, Neward, NJ: 1926 [I have this- it is a play on the history of Newark- does not contain genealogy, in fact none of the Harrisons are listed in the cast of characters] 'Narratives of Newark From the Days of Its Founding' David Lawrence Pierson,Newark, NJ: 1917. [I have this too- interesting, but no genealogy] I think the only one of these sources that HUBBARD could have come from is the Corbin article, which I will try to get the next time I am at the library. 2. 'Genealogical Notices of the First Settlers of Newark' Samuel H Congar,Newark, NJ: NJ Historical Society, 1866.This source is cited by many authors (e.g., Shaw in 'History of Essex & HudsonCties') Congar does not list a wife for Srgt Richard 3. 'The Harrisons of NJ - A Partial Genealogy' Jean Harrison Stokes Childs,Newville, PA: Privately Published, 1990 This source states (and I quote) 'Richard HARRISON (1) b 1600 West Kirby,Cheshire, England m (1) Sarah YORKE and (2) Margaret PICKE (according to NormanCondit) d 25 Oct 1655 Branford, CTChildren Richard (2) b 1620 West Kirby, Cheshire, England m Sarah HUBBARD (dau ofGeorge) d 1690 Newark, NJ' [other children & spouses follow] The author cites for this 'New Haven Genealogical Magazine, vol III, May 1926, vital statistics of New Haven and Branford. 'She also states 'HARRISON, Richard (d 1654), son of Thomas an uncle of Gen. Thomas HARRISON, the regicide; grandson of Richard, twice mayor of Newcastle-Under-Lyme, came from West Kirby, Cheshire, England 1640, settled at New Haven, CT, later removed to Branford m Sarah YORKE.'Childs' source for this is 'Immigrant Ancestors - Extracted from Vol. VIII, American Genealogy, edited by Frederick Adams Virkus, pub by Genealogical PubCo, Baltimore, MD 1986.'Childs then lists 6 other sources: 'Second Boat', Nov 1980 'Harrisons of Berkeley' by Paul Warner 'Ancestry of Benjamin Harrison' by Charles Keith, 1893 The Condit book cited above 'Genealogies of CT Families', Vol II Gen Pub Co 1983 'Genealogical Mag of NJ' Vol 58, #1, p. 28 1-83 Later in her manuscript she again mentions Sarah HUBBARD giving as source'Genealogy Guide to the Early Settlers of Americal' Henry Wittemore. This is followed by a paragraph on Sarah HUBBARD's lineage. Her sources on this are listed: 'New Haven Genealogical Magazine', vol III, May 1926 'History of Essex Co NJ Vol I XXXiii' 'Founders & Builders of the Oranges' Whittemore Shaw's 'History of Essex Co' [HUBBARD is not mentioned here] 'History of the Oranges' Pierson, Vol IV p. 14 [no HUBBARD here] The Condit book cited above that does not list HUBBARD 'Genealogies of CT Families', Vol II Gen Pub Co 1983 hilds provides some other details about Srgt Richard and then states that he died in Newark in 1690. She cites Jonathan Stearn's 'First Church in Newark'Newark, NJ, 1853 p. 80, but when I checked that book the author said that Srgt Richard HARRISON died 'about 1683 or 1684' and the in context it seems a supposition rather than a documented fact. Ricard W Cook in his article, 'Richard HARRISON of Newark' Gen Mag of NJ 58:28-32, 1982 states that Richard was married to Sarah HUBBARD, dau of George and Mary HUBBARD. At any rate, having grown weary of HARRISONs I looked at 'The Bishop Genealogy by William Cone & George Allen Root, Nyack, NJ: John Guy Bishop, 1951. There on p. 1 it states that Mary BISHOP, dau of John and Anne ? m George HUBBARD and their daughter Sarah HUBBARD married Daniel HARRISON and rem to NJ. Sorry, I don't have their sources at the moment. [S1063] [S1042]
