Aug 11, 1927 ltr from Frank Gentry to Us Dept of Int, Wash. DC:
"As a desc of Micajah Harrison of Va & KY.....My family is in poss of an old manuscript which states that the "father of Micajah was Joseph and his father was Lovel Harrisons or perhaps Lovel was the son of Joseph. I do not know which, but both served in the Rev. War.
In "Records of the Rev. War" by Saffell the roster of Co. 1, Col. Alex. Spottswood's 2nd VA Reg as it stood on Mar 1, 1777, lists Lovell Harrison, Corporal and Joseph Harrison, private. Again in "Historical Register of Officers of the Continental Army" by Heitman, I find on page 276 a Love Harrison, an Ensign of the 8th VA Reg on Sep 25, 1779 and subsequently.
Apparently, therefore, the name has been spelled in three ways: Lovell, Lovel, and Love. Whether Joseph is the father of Lovel or Lovel the father of Joseph is unknown. Neither are the dates, places of birth, name of their wives or name of children other than Micajah known.
Signed: Frank M. Gentry. [S513]
