He was a Mason (symbol on tombstone). Note, they are buried in two different places. She at Old Salem churchyard (now Ft. Jackson), he at Elgin. That is because the army did not allow any burials at Ft. Jackson after about 1945 or so.

Hugh A. Hawkins of Greenwood
Hugh A. Hawkins, 80, retired farmer and former constable of Blaney, died Tuesday at Self Memorial Hospital. He was born in Richland Co., a son of the late William Jasper Hawkins and Mrs. Catherine McNeil Hawkins.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Estes Creed Hawkins of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Minnie LeGrande, Columbia, and Charlotte Hammond, Salisbury, NC; two sons, C. B. Hawkins, Columbia, and McNeil Hawkins, California; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Lois Bradham, Summerville, and Mrs. Doris Thomas, Greenwood, and two stepsons, Charles McKenzie, Greenwood, and Glen McKenzie, Orlando, Fla.
Funeral services will be conducted at Harley Funeral Home at 1 p.m., Thursday. Burial will be in Salem Methodist Church Cemetery in Blaney at 3:30 p.m., with Masonic rites.
