In 1253 he was invested by the Pope in the Kingdom of Sicily and Apulia, at about this time he was also made Earl of Chester. These were of little value as the real King of Sicily was still living and the Earldom of Chester was transferred to his elder brother Edward. He soon obtained both possessions and dignities, for upon the forfeiture of Simon de Monfort by the King of the Earldom of Leicester and also the honour of the Stewardship of England and the lands of Nicolas de Segrave.

Evan Long, the youngest son of Reuben served in Rev. under his brother Major Gabriel Long. In 1775 he was only 13 years old and he attained the rank of Serg't by end of War. Following the close of the War, Evan married Lucy Apperson or Epperson and they removed to Twiggs Co. GA, where he died in 1819. A granite pillow marker inscribed "Evan Long, son of Reuben and Mary Harrison Long is located in the Ezekiel Wimberly Cemetery, 2 miles north from Jeffersonville, on US Hsy 80. Evan is mentioned in Rev. War Records of VA Army and Navy Bounty Land Warrants as being a Serg't and serving three years. [S438]
