William wrote his will in 1826 naming sons : John, William, Zachariah, Starling ( Sterling ) & Landon. He left most of his property to wife Nelly, except for 5 slaves to son John and 50 acres of land and 3 slaves to a friend Thomas Giles. ( this was contested in court after Williams death. ) In the same neighborhood as William in Rockingham Co. lived an older William Harrison born ca 1730. I think my William was born ca 1754. This William died 1824 and his property was divided by lottery. I have not yet found the land division. A power of attorney was signed by Nathaniel Harrison of Blount Co. TN. , Charles & Chairity ( Harrison ) Baker, & Jesse Harrison of Greene Co. TN. giving power of attorney to Yancey Holman ( husband of Amey Harrison ) A John Harrison was administrator of the estate. One daughter was deceased at the time and her children by the last name Vermillion were heirs and sold the lot that they drew on Wolfe Island Creek. Nathaniel Harrison married Elizabeth Brown. For quite a few years I had confused these two Williams in deeds etc. I really believe that this William is the father of my William, but I need proof. The other Harrisons in Rockingham Co. consisted of a James Harrison who died about 1800, I believe this James also had a son named John. Another James Harrison purchased land from James Williams in Rockingham Co. 26th Dec. 1824. Deed was witnessed by Elizabeth Harrison, who was probably his wife. This land was paid for by John Harrison, so it is possible that this was money from estate of William Harrison. If you are good at reading old handwriting I can mail copies of these papers. Another early Rockingham Co. Harrison was Elijah Harrison. I believe that Elijah also had a son James and a son or grandson named Julius T. Harrison. He seems to have some connection to the family of John Harrison that married Sarah Daniel. Also to the Cooper family. Julius Harrison, Confederate Soldier and grandson of Elijah Harrison, was buried in Brazelton, Ga. He was buried with a group of Coopers. His second wife was Emoline Cooper. There was also an early Charles, Thomas, and Henry Harrison in Rockingham Co. Elijah Harrison died in either GA or SC.
All Rockingham Co. NC
To WILLIAM HARRISON Guilford Co. Warrant 17th May 1763 200 acres on Little Troublesome Creek of Haw River includes his own improvements. Surveyed 10 Nov. 1763.
Surveyed 10 Nov 1763 198 acres on Little Troublesome Creek adj. Jno Boyd , George Rowland, James Campbell cb 2 copies ( this may mean that the 200 acres above turned out to be 198 after surveying. ) Since in May 1763 it includes his own improvements, he must have been here prior to that. In this case and if the William above is the same then most of his children were born in NC. and he may have married in NC.
