Mother: Vinnie Ethel SHERA |
"My aunt, Christine Harrison Dutcher, dedicated her life to the study of our family's history. Although she will never know, it was she who was responsible for sparking my interest in this field. She spent countless hours compiling information, contacting relatives, and researching in courthouses, libraries, and family records to verify most of the information contained in our history."
The following letter was written by Aunt Christine and was found among her family research records:
----------------------------------------------------------------- ----- ---------------------------------------------------------
To the descendants of Caleb and Sally Shafer Shera of College Corner, Ohio:
"For many years I have been doing research on the background and descendants of my generation's great grandparents. I realize that no history is always correct or compete in all details. There are bound to be contradictions, mistakes, omissions, and misspellings, even though I have tried to avoid them."
"It is better to search and write down what I have been able to find than not having written anything at all. I have found that my grandfather, John B. Shera, had made an attempt in 1900 - 1901, and reported to a reunion that he, too, needed more help. Then from letters in my possession I found that Cora Shera, daughter of Daniel and Jennie (Margaret Jane) Shera, had made another attempt. Whether she ever received answers, I do not know; it was 1911 - 1912."
"At least what I have found will establish a base for other people. Caleb was a name which went thought the family for several generations so the researcher has to watch the birth and death dates to identify which one is being spoken of."
"The information comes from court, Bible, cemetery, and church records, vital statistics, personal knowledge, and earlier charts from the Laird Family History by John F. Laird of Camden, Ohio, August 28. 1983."
"For help in compiling this history, I am indebted to the following: Isabel Shera Lafuze, Helen Carmichael Miller, Barbara Shera Dishman, and many others."

Mother: Sarah Ann BLICK |
may be the James Harrison that married Hixcey Robertson.
We need to determine how or IF this James went to North Carolina. More evidence is needed to verify that Gabriel's orphan son James (orphaned about age 3) is the same James who m. Hixcey Robertson. The names of the children of James Gabriel in Joyce Barnett's records match all known children of this Gabriel. James Blick was the guardian of Nathaniel and James Harrison.
Helen Pate Ross an I have corresponded since the 1960's on two of our lines. Just this last May she sent me a xerox copy of her family Bible. Difficult to read, but not impossible. The earliest birth date is James Harrison b. May 19, 1776 d. Sept. 8, 1863.She also sent the following data: "Lawrenceville, VA Book 14, page 97 February 26, 1781 "Indenture between Nathaniel Harrison Sr. of Brunswick County of the one grant and Nathaniel Harrison, Jr. & James Harrison of the said county sons of Gabriel Harrison deceased and grandsons of the said Nathaniel Harrison, Sr. of the other grant. Witnesseth that the said Nathaniel Harrison, Sr. as well for/in consideration of the natural loves and affection which he hath bear unto said Nathaniel Harrison, Jr. and James Harrison his grandons as also for the better maintenance & preferment of the said Nathaniel Harrison & James Harrison. Land to be divided when they come of age."
"Deed Book #4 page 32
"James & Nathaniel Harrison orphans of Gabriel Harrison deceased in account with James Blick their guardian." (James Blick was grandfather's mother's father. Line of Helen Pate Ross of IL.) [S51] [S51] [S1026] [S1026]
