of Denton and Nun Appleton, Knight. Thomas fought in the Low Country and was knighted by Lord Essex for gallant conduct before Rouen, 1591. He served Queen Elizabeth as a diplomatist; was one of the Council of the North, under the presidency of Lord Sheffield, from 1602-1619. He was created a peer of Scotland, 4 May 1627, as Baron Fairfax of Cameron. [S581]
