James moved to Mecklenburg Co., VA in 1762. He served two 3-month enlistments in the Virginia Militia with company commanders Richard Epperson and Capt. Robert Smith. He moved to Jackson Co., TN in 1805 and applied for pension in 1833 (pension # 26530). He is believed to have been residing with his son Benjamin at the time of the pension application and to be burried at the Harrison Cemetery which is across the State line in KY.
According to the DAR James Mason Harrison died 12 Dec 1839 in Jackson County Tenn information source from my mother Mary Elizabeth Kerchal. [S128] [S826] [S830]
