Rev Feke was pastor of Baptist Church at Oyster Bay, NY at the time John Harrison returned there from Augusta County, VA, 1756 to be baptized. He lived at "Mill River Hollow".
In the John Browne Story - Hannah Feke married John Browne, the father of religious freedom in Flushing, New York on May 7, 1656/7. A Tobias Feke (Feake) was sheriff in 1656/56. No doubt relatives of the Oyster Bay family. [S224]

Rev. Harrison was going to the aid of a local citizen when he was killed. He was the Chaplin for the 1st MO. Homeguard (later to become the 21st MO INF.) We have a folklore story about how his daughters had secreted a message in a slat bonnet to him, that the attack would come 3 days earlier than thought. At that time, MO. was pro confederate, Athens was pro Confederate, but the Home Guard (Union) was ensconced at Athens awaiting supplies and even with a Peace Meeting being held, they would not leave. Rev. Harrison represents being caught as a victim of war, when his objective was to settle things without bloodshed. He, like many others never knew the outcome of it all.
Jabez was killed early in the war as a member of the 1st N.E. MO. Home Guard. 8-5-1861. The 21st MO. INF wasn't formed until Feb 1862 by joining the 1st and 2nd N.E. MO. Home Guard. After the war Col. David Moore of the 1st N.E. MO Home Guard and Col. of the 21st MO. INF pushed to get pay for his soldiers dating back to the Athens Battle. This would explain why Jabez has a military stone and it reads Co. F. of the 21st MO. INF. This entitlement has to be posthumous. Source: Patricia Mullenix
From Patricia Mullenix:
I have been involved with the Civil War since a child and was at the 100th Memorial service for Rev. Harrison. I was one of the little girls to hold a corner of the blanket flag over his grave. My father played taps and my brother played the echo. My mother filmed it all on the Belle & Howell camera. [S975] [S975]
